I don’t see the value of this post for people who write on substack. Maybe I’m missing something?

Because it's not about writers anymore. It's about mainstream politics and consumerism.

This thought may be at a bit of a tangent. I believe that home shopping has been taken over by the wealthy. The Auction invites those with bottomless pockets to constantly escalate the cost of homes. This becomes a benchmark to general shopping so that all costs are increased.

You don't do thrift shops? flea markets? estate sales? small stores? Salvation Army? sew, knit, crochet?

I guess we all wear clothes and buy or make them. Therefore it is relevant to those who are interested in fashion in particular, and want their image to keep up to date........

What a deviation from what this site was originally intended…sad…nothing of interest in today’s content. Thank you.

I'm new to Substack and still navigating my way around the site. Shopping and fashion seem a bit off as topics for writers using this forum. Maybe I'm missing something? I don't use the usual social media sites and looked at this for an alternative to find thoughtful analysis of current world affairs. Perhaps my expectations were too much. I'm not interested in payment, just an exchange of ideas and accurate information. Thank you.

Frankly, I couldn’t care less… perhaps because I’m not selling anything and am decidedly uninterested in buying something from a newsletter.

You Know What - Independence of voices and messages is not a threat to anyone’s ego, nor is it an injury to egalitarian ideals. It is, in fact, the foundation of authenticity. Think of it - Substack is less a marketplace and more a meeting place - where honest dialogue thrives, a rare commodity in our times,

Independant voices is not the subtle in yo face imposition.

Look at the real picture and promotional propaganda!

Glad I waited it out to see the real colores of this site.

I’m not sure a “by invitation only” Substack is something that represents what were once the values here when I started more than four years ago.

This article is about the people who only speak to each other about themselves and their group of shallow prep school level in-crowders. Our entire society is falling apart, our democracy is being eaten into pieces, thinking is in short supply and people who preach hate are idolized. Why is Substack dumbing itself down to the irrelvant?

So, these newsletter writers on Substack are doing the exact same thing as “creators” that have a TikTok Shop?

This post rubbed me the wrong way. The way they discuss their "craft" - talking about styling racks, pre-planning lookbooks, and strategic timing - turns personal taste into a systematized business model. There's something that feels hollow about commodifying the very human experience of figuring out what you like and how to express yourself. The post treats shopping newsletters like serious cultural commentary when they're fundamentally just product promotion with affiliate links - they're applying weighty intellectual frameworks to what is essentially product promotion. There's something absurd about the breathless, self-important tone around what is essentially the business of telling people what to buy.
