Last year, writer, physician, and researcher Eric Topol took to Twitter to share ongoing analysis of the data around the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching an audience of half a million followers with his straightforward daily updates. Now, he’s bringing his expertise to a new publication, called Ground Truths, as Substack’s latest Writer in Residence.

Substack writer residencies are designed to give established writers a place to experiment, share knowledge, and inspire other writers and readers in the Substack community. This month, Dr. Topol will post a series of essays digging into what is known to be true about COVID and related biomedical matters, while acknowledging that our understanding of the virus continues to develop: “It’s important to emphasize that just as the SARS-CoV-2 virus has evolved substantially over the past two years, so has our knowledge. What’s true today may be proven false tomorrow. That’s science.”

Topol has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, and has published original research papers on COVID-19 with his colleagues at the Scripps Research Translational Institute, where he is founder and director. He is among the top 10 most cited researchers in medicine, and has published over 1,200 peer-reviewed articles.
