Recipe embeds are still a work in progress. Hundreds of us food writers agree we need printing and pdf saving capabilities

So the receipt option doesn't work well? I have some food influencers I'm helping. I thought it would work well. Or what feature would you like o see?

I've been blogging for 16 years and moving to Substack and the recipe embeds on Wordpress are much more full featured. I am not expecting the same level as those plugins, but the number top features I am hearing from my fellow bloggers is the ability to print and/or save to pdf directly from the embed. There are other minor tweaks like measurements and adding custom blocks but we can work around those. Otherwise, we are embedding our own pdfs into the text of the recipes so we can allow users to download them. I have a substack food writers group on Facebook with 300 members and this is what they are asking for.

I am in agreement that food/recipe writers want a few more options on the recipe option. Yes, needs a print/pdf option for better reader experience. A section for additional info (not description) under the directions to include information like storing, reheating, optional ingredients to make it gluten-free for example) needs a place to reside in recipes. These 2 are bare minimum before I will use it.

The recipe embed is a good start, but to be worth anything at all for the reader, it has to have a print option. Without it, Substack creators will still be forced to create PDF downloads for every recipe, while still having to fill out the recipe card. Recipe card functionality is quite complex, which is why the gold standard will always be WPRM on WordPress. But, the appearance of a solid, basic recipe embed on Substack is much appreciated, and I checked to make sure it's been properly coded on the backend so that Google, et al., can recognize it as a recipe and not just an article. It needs that print button, though!

Two annoying features of Substack text posts: they convert every line feed into a paragraph break, and underlining words is not allowed. Your Substack is a sub-domain so could actually allow any HTML format for the pages.

Can we get some improvements to the options for post layouts for, you know, the writers you’re always talking about. Tabbing, various justifications, text breaks, wrapping text around images… The stuff that Blogger was doing twenty years ago.

Substack is just another social media platform that feeds our urge to hear more same. Instead, make algorithm follow comments, not likes. Encourage true conversation and awareness. Make America honest again, make America UNITED again. Substack could help

This is really cool for authors. Can the recipe embed be hacked or used in a different way in the post? Or is it only for recipes?

There is no problem at all. I just wonder how I can use it for other purposes, explanations, decoding steps in the creative process etc. I am not a food writer, but I think it can serve authors from other niches.
