An upgrade to the Substack editor

Today, we’re introducing a more powerful editor. In the next few hours, writers may notice a new layout when drafting posts but will experience no loss of functionality. 

This change will enable us to build features writers have asked for—specifically audio and video embeds in text posts. (For writers who are technical, the new editor uses TipTap on top of ProseMirror.)

We know that the editor is an important tool for writers. As with everything at Substack, we aim to build both with and for writers. If you run into any issues or have suggestions, please let us know in the comments or by messaging our support team.
