Is anybody properly addicted to more than one social media platform at once? E.g. Twitter AND Instagram? or does one tend to expand to fill your available attention?
I don't know if I'm addicted to them as a consumer. I view them through the lense of a producer, and log in a lot to see what works and what doesn't. So yeah, I'm addicted, but not to the content on them, but how they're used as a marketing channel, and how their business model works (or doesn't).
Twitter is the worst for me, and I'd imagine the same would be the case for anyone who's interested in current events or what's happening "right now." But if I was a teenager, I'd bet Instagram would fill that role. I once tried an app that shows you how much of your phone's energy each app uses, and Twitter blew away all the others for me, by far. And so, I'll try deleting it once more... :)
Every part of this essay resonated with me so much - except the thing about deciding to read later. I find if I don’t read something in the moment I enjoy it far less and am far less likely to come back to it. I would like to have more discipline on this point, though!

You sound like a man on a mission Chris. A man with a vision too - not just driven by numbers or money. As they say, a man in motion is a powerful thing, he leaves a vacuum behind him and it sucks people into his wake.

Twitter kills my time to read books.

My secret is using "things I've saved to read on my phone" to procrastinate from reading books that are even higher friction/reward.

Good for you.
