Apply for Substack’s Food Writers Intensive
Applications are now open through February 28.
Attention, food writers: Applications are now open for our Food Writers Intensive. We’re offering this program to surface, celebrate, and accelerate 10 fellows who are pushing the boundaries of food writing on Substack.
Selected fellows will participate in a three-month program focused on accelerating their publications, building business acumen, sharing ideas and tips specific to food writing, and learning from top writers. Fellows will distill knowledge and lessons learned into a guide to food on Substack that will be published after the program wraps.
Applications are open until February 28 at 11 a.m. PST / 2 p.m. EST.
In addition to the Substack team, a panel of Substack food writers will independently judge applications and provide mentorship to fellows, including Hanna Raskin of The Food Section; Dave Infante of Fingers; and Melissa McCart of Broken Palate and The Bittman Project.
Fellows will receive:
$10,000 USD
A suite of services
Mentorship from seasoned food writers
Expert coaching and insights from the Substack team
You’re eligible to apply if:
You’ve been writing about food on Substack for at least three months.
You have an original and focused take on food and its intersection with culture—from niche cuisine to special recipes to farming, food technology, politics and food, and more.
Your publication is written in English. (If your publication is bilingual, it includes English.)
You have at least 500 subscribers on Substack, or a following elsewhere you feel you can cultivate as readers.
You are available in April, May, and June to join regular group sessions and contribute actively to online conversations with other fellows.
You’re committed to building your Substack over the long term.
You’re a community-minded person with an interest in sharing knowledge with fellow writers down the line.
We can’t wait to welcome this crop of fellows and create great things together!
If you have any questions, drop us a line at community@substackinc.com.
Yours,
Kelsa and the Substack Community Team
