That's incredibly interesting, and wasn't something that had occurred to me. I would've thought having the option to Follow would help writers, if anything. Because Readers who aren't ready to Subscribe can Follow, and that at least keeps them engaged with your Notes and writing, rather than losing them completely. Then, there's a chance they might Subscribe later if they see something they really like. Of course, there is also the potential that some might Follow, when they actually meant to Subscribe - and that could be part of what's causing the perceived decline. Others may just enjoy reading the content a writer is putting in Notes, but not the Newsletter itself. I think the most important thing is giving Readers options in how they want to interact with the writers they enjoy. Of course, ideally, we would like them to Subscribe, but I think ultimately, a Follow is also good in the meantime as they've still become a part of our community and shown some support... 😎
