We’re going on (virtual) tour. Join us!
Meet other writers and discover great writing in your category.
This month, Substack is going on a virtual tour to help connect writers exploring similar topics together.
The Substack category tour will act both as a meeting place for writers to connect directly over Zoom, and as a showcase for the wide variety of writing happening on Substack within a given category.
Writers of fiction, or who write about food, and participated in Substack Go are connecting independently with other writers who publish in the same category. They found, through connecting together, they can foster a strong sense of belonging and accountability, as well as make writing a more communal experience.
Together, writers generate more ideas, explore more questions, and celebrate milestones along their writing journey. As Ryan Gilbert of Listening Sessions shared, creating relationships with other writers can help them keep going:
“We are all part of a community of writers who are all deeply passionate about what we write about. Writing is, by necessity, a solitary pursuit, the chance to begin to build connections with fellow writers is energizing and empowering.”
While some writers have already found their people, others told us they are looking for more ways to build relationships with their peers.
We’re here to help. Being an independent writer doesn’t mean being alone. The category tour brings the diversity of writers publishing on Substack into focus and leaves participating writers with a map of who else is writing in their category. And you may even discover a few new publications to read.
Writers, we are excited to meet you. See you on the (virtual) road!

Kate Lindsay, co-author of Embedded, will share advice on curating great writing for your readers. Kate and Nick Catucci curate twice-weekly guides about new internet creators, highlight trends and host weekly interviews with “very online” people.

The format is simple. Each stop on tour brings together three to four categories of writers. At the beginning of each session, a handful of writers are invited to take the virtual stage and share what they are writing and reading on Substack. After which, we’ll open breakout rooms for writers to get to know fellow writers in their category.

On the first Thursday of every month, we host a Shoutout Thread for writers on Substack. It's a chance for the broader writer community to celebrate what we’ve been reading and inspired by on Substack. As the finale to the category tour, we will be hosting a special Shoutout Thread on Zoom.
A handful of writers will be invited to take the virtual stage to share what they are writing and reading on Substack. Plus, we’ll open breakout rooms to connect writers together.
