nice moves by Substack lately - really focused on developing products people need and then building the tech around it. The right order of things one feels :)
I'm 2 years old on Substack and shooting my shot for a feature, finally :)
Your support mean the world, love to you all out there and keep Substacking !
Thanks so much for making the default that only publication contributors can start chats! I work full time and can’t monitor rogue chats started by subscribers 😉
Thank you; I rarely use my phone because I live in the middle of nowhere. It does work, but only with Wi-fi, and I do all of my writing on my desktop. NOW I can join the Chat craze! Fabulous!!!
Exciting! This does blur the lines some between starting a chat thread or doing a community thread post, so I think it's a bit of a mental hurdle to figure out for myself what that differentiating factor is.
But I've been wanting to have tools to let the community itself being to take more initiative and ownership, and this is a great step toward that!
Previously, I'd considered having a Slack community that paid members got access to (similar to what Lenny does with his newsletter/community), but this feels like it could be the solution I need.
I think you are totally right that the lines are blurring between the old thread post you email out vs. a chat. One way that has helped me distinguish between the two is Chat is a dedicated space for more casual interactions with your subscriber community. It's a good place for quick updates, photos, and discussion prompts on the go because you can chat from the web or the app.
I experimented a while back with a Slack channel for my subscribers too, and at least in my experience, getting people to sign up for another account and download a separate app was too big an ask. I’m super excited about the potential here, because it’s a seamless user experience -- you just pop right over and you’re in the Chat, logged in and good to go 👍
I’m trying to build a subscriber base right now, but once that gets to a certain level then I would be happy to use this function. Thanks for adding it.
This is what I've been waiting for before I enable chats!!
Let us know how it goes!

Fantastic! I love the app but very few of my subscribers have it, so it's great they'll be able to use this via the website.
Yes Thats good !!

I spend most of my day in front of the computer and prefer typing on a full sized keyboard, so this is amazing news!
Agreed and also I have long nails and there is no way to go back and edit posts on the mobile app. I can fix my mistakes on the desktop lol.
well said :)
