How about you guys work on being able to schedule a note? Or discoverability based on the tags we put in? I don't need more video stuff for a writing platform.
So true. I joined sub stack because it presented writing, not video. Now sub stack seems to want to do it all without making it easier for the original writers to do what they do – write.
Hi Victor, there are many now offering AI-based tools
One I recommend to my Online Writing Club members is the one from Finn (he's working 9/5 as a software developer, no quick rich scheme or scam). Here I share the post, and there's also a video about the scheduler: https://www.onlinewritingclub.com/p/now-you-can-schedule-your-substack

Re tags, there are now 150 meta tags. They help you being seen.
When will scheduling livestreams via Android be available? I'm annoyed that only those with iPhones can schedule Live events. Please tell me it's very soon! 😊
I can stream live on my Android phone; what I can't do is schedule the live calls from the app, the way iPhone users can. Just checked and I still cannot schedule a live, only go live immediately, or use a 3rd party desktop tool.
I wish you'd fix website notifications. And also have a human support service. It's just a stupid bot. Even when it says it passes things on, no one ever replies. That's the kind of service enshittification I don't expect from a tool that seems to be growing and successful. (And I realise no one at Substack will read this, previous comments have been ignored too. With that, and your promotion of right-wing sources, I do wonder if I'll stay here.))
Karl, I agree with you on the support service, although after a couple of tries I did get a human response. Unfortunately it wasn't the best news. After accidentally hitting a paid subscriber key instead of the unpaid (rather read first before buying) and unsubscribing within 3 minutes, I'm being charged. The company does not offer refunds! It refers you to the author and saying refunds are the "discretion" of the author. So far my credit card issuer is on Substack's side on this. Not over yet but what a business model.
Wait, there are only Right-Wing sources available from Substack? Wow, I had no idea! I thought that Substack was a neutral space for anyone who wants to write, no matter what your politics are. That's crazy! For instance, I got myself a Rumble account, an Odysee account, and now a Brighteon account for posting my videos.
I really don't like personal or externally-received labels, and have been given labels by people I would assume are conservatives, but then I can't stand people who think they're "woke" and "liberal" and who also label me. I've always wondered if there are people out there who were neither fanatical religious nuts, nor self-identified "liberals", or anyone else whose attached to some sort of self-imposed identity that renders them biased, unreliable, and perhaps somewhat incapable of holding an intellectual conversation without taking offense.
See, these are the things that I would love to talk about on a live stream.
Sure, great, but could you make text anchors (for jumping to titles) work properly in the app please? Proper tools for writers are supposed to be the core of this place.
Maybe let us centre align or left align the text too? That would be nice, and I imagine easier than all this video editing stuff.
Oh, and an option for users to disable video autoplay in the app would be great - I have literally never wanted Substack to blast a video at me before I've even had a chance to read what it's going to be about. I just close the whole app whenever that happens because it's faster than trying to pause or stop the video.
I have a good webcam and an expensive mic and a ring light and a setup that I cobbled together over years to facilitate all the podcasts I've done. I would much, much rather use all of that than prop my cellphone up and get a worse result. I have heard conflicting things about whether I can stream from outside of the app. Can I get some clarification? As soon as I can use my actual professional tools to do this, I will.
@Zach @ Substack, Thanks for the link. Questions …
Please define RTMP and MUX. Also, it is unclear to me if both Streamyard and OBS are required … and if the s/w requirements are different depending on if portrait or landscape is desired. I use an iPhone with Epoccam as my camera and mic via OBS’s virtual camera feature on desktop. Will this setup work?
I am not anti-video or anti-podcast. But it is not the way that I like to enjoy Substack. For me personally, Substack is a place to read long-form text and occasionally "chat" via Notes. But I completely dislike getting notifications for live video, live podcasts, live "chat for paid subscribers only".
Please tweak notifications so we can opt out of them.
And yes, I try to "leave" live chat. But the next time that someone does a live chat, I get the notification anyway. This is forcing me to mute Substackers whose long-form texts I enjoy but who also do live chat and live video far too often.
It's holding me back from podcasts and live video on my own Substacks, because I know most of my readers do not like them.
I’ve said this a lot of the last 20 years, I just don’t care for video. It’s not how I learn. It’s not how I teach. If others want this, that’s fine. It’ll never be a medium that I enjoy.
When can we start livestreaming without the app? My older demographic tends not to be inclined toward the app. I do TONS of online events but must always do Zoom. Would love to try livestreams but I can't risk losing my core audience.
It's worth noting that your subscribers can watch all live videos from their computers! They don't need the app even if you are going live from the app.
"Substack automatically generates short clips likely to resonate with your audience" Does that mean videos are being fed into A.I. and content scraped? Can you be more transparent about data privacy during this process? Thank you.

100%!! We need this. 50% are Android users
I think it mentioned in the article that next week Android users will be able to stream live.

I wonder if SS is doing well enough financially.

Hi Freddie - If you have Streamyard or another streaming tool that accepts a stream key, you can do this from your desktop. Directions here: https://support.substack.com/hc/en-us/articles/32070353475860-Live-video-on-Substack-via-RTMP

Been using it for 6 weeks and written 2 articles about it if youre interested Freddy
It’s all so old school to me that we can’t yet stream live from our desktop or laptop, streamers have been doing it on Twitch for what, a decade?
Hi Holly, think it's possible via OBS or Streamyard

of course you can de-select the live notifications, just look in settings in your profile

I am with you. I learn from reading. Video distracts me. I am disappointed in sub stack becoming a video site.
Live scheduling on Android? Desktop?

In terms of filming from desktop, you can do this if you have Streamyard or another streaming tool that accepts a stream key. Directions here: https://support.substack.com/hc/en-us/articles/32070353475860-Live-video-on-Substack-via-RTMP
Can I go livestream from my computer? (I too am more comfortable doing that than going live from an app)
Can we go live from our desktop yet?
Will Substack develop hyperlinking words in Notes? 🥸

When will Scheduling Live be available on Android?
We need this!!
Beautiful
I love it when everybody is free to do what the want without breaking protocol
