Updates are almost exactly what I have needed. I will say, It would be great if the admins could assign a specific post to a contributor (byline-wise).
This is already possible. You can add admins and contributors via your settings page. Each person added becomes a byline you can choose to append to any post.
Hamish, can contributors have access to edit *without* having access to dashboard and everything else? For example, if I send a contributor a draft link, could they edit and save changes?
At this point, no. But you can send them a secret link (available in the post's settings) that will let them see what the post will look like on the web once it's published.
Exactly. Or even to be able to just create a post myself and then put the name/image of guest contributor. Currently, I'd like to go back and retroactively assign the correct byline.
Ok, but you should help the writers to create groups. I would be happy to be part of a publishing team, but I don't know who is interested in teams like me. Not to mention that the writers not using the English language are just a few, and Italian language even less than a few. That's what I've been doing, yes! We use Google docs to make edits right now.

You should be able to do that latter part. If you invite some folks as contributors, you'll be able to go back and assign their bylines to past posts.
