Now live for all: Substack Notes
A way to share posts and short-form content on Substack
Today we’re launching Notes to everyone. Notes is a new space where you can publish short-form posts and share ideas with other writers and readers on Substack.
Notes helps writers’ and creators’ work travel through the Substack network for new readers to discover. You can share links, images, quick thoughts, and snippets from Substack posts. As well as being lightweight and fun, we hope that Notes will help writers grow their audience and revenue. Notes lives in a tab beside Inbox at substack.com and in Substack’s mobile apps. Unlike an Inbox post, a Notes post does not get sent to subscribers by email.
Notes also marks the next step in our efforts to build our subscription network—one that puts writers and readers in charge, rewards great work with money, and protects the free press and free speech. This work is at the core of the Substack model, and we believe it will be an important part of a new economic engine for culture. But what you see today is just the beginning. Notes is a long-term project, and success will ultimately be determined by the trust expressed by writers and readers over the course of years. We do not take that trust for granted.
This release is an early version of the product that we have been testing with a small group of writers in recent weeks. We expect it to have bumps, bugs, and imperfections, and for it to evolve rapidly in response to feedback. If you have ideas, please let us know—preferably in Notes!
We think that Notes can become a powerful driver of subscriptions. Historically, having worthy posts get shared widely is one of the major ways that writers find growth on Substack. Notes will help posts find a valuable audience of writers and readers who are already invested in the Substack ecosystem and are just one click away from a subscription.
How to publish your first note
Here’s how to get started with Notes:
Visit the Notes tab. Head to substack.com/notes or visit the new Notes tab in the Substack app.
Post your first note. Say hello to your fellow writers and subscribers, or share an excellent piece of writing. Your notes can contain simple text or much more, including images, rich text, links, and @mentions.
Invite subscribers to join the conversation. After you send your first note, you will see a template to announce to your subscribers that you are using Notes. Send them an email or share a link to any of your notes on social media to get the word out.
If you’re looking for a way to get started, jump into our roll call.
How writers and creators are using Notes
Here are a few examples from the writers, illustrators, journalists, comics creators, and more who helped us build Notes:
Recommend another writer’s work. Share posts, quotes, comments, images, and links. Be sure to @mention the writers when recommending their work.
Share commentary and inspiration. A note might be something you believe other writers and readers in the Substack network would enjoy but that you don’t want to send out via an email.
“Restack” a quote. Shine a spotlight on the exceptional writing and ideas you encounter on Substack, down to your favorite excerpts. (You can restack any post or quote that’s on Substack.)
Share a behind-the-scenes look. Notes can include up to six photos or GIFs. You can include images in both notes and replies.
How to navigate Notes
Head to substack.com/notes on the web or visit the new Notes tab in the Substack app.
In Notes you will see two tabs: “Home” and “Subscribed.”
The Subscribed tab shows notes and activity from writers you have subscribed to directly.
The Home tab shows notes from writers you are subscribed to and writers they recommend, making up your extended network.

I look forward to finding new ways to share my wisdom and genius.
Great comment
I thought of saying this myself, but felt I didn't need to, because REAL genius speaks for itself.
But I'm also leaving this comment, so it passive-aggressively does the same job.
Great comment
Great reply.

Great exchange.
Definite value add thread.
I actually specialise in value-*deduct* content, where I say something and afterwards everyone feels slightly stupider and even more confused about everything. It's my special gift. You may even be feeling it right now!
👆 Self absorbed dipshit! 😑
When you must choose which way to turn in any situation. Remember: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me - John14:6 and "... as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Romans8:14
God is so third century. We know that already-- so you don't have to keep proving it. LOL

I had a feeling Substack Notes would be a friendlier place than Twitter. Delighted to see I was correct (as usual).
Maybe you thought that was funny. You were wrong.
On the other hand, maybe you actually meant it, which is pretty horrifying.
Great comment.
Great reply.
I like how this thread just proved the point that good vibes win here
*Excellent* reply.
Great comedy partner for Dante.
Great sense of humor.
You being naive or an asshole, have you seen the ugly doxing and cyber harassment spilling from other social media onto Substack Notes? https://substack.com/notes?utm_source=%2Fchat&utm_medium=reader2-nav
Your "go-to" response? 😉🙂
Though in the case of Papier, you probably have a point ...
I look forward to finding new ways to share my wisdom and genius.
Great comment
You can thank George for the inspiration.

This is going to be such an amazing way to connect with my readers. Y’all have no idea how much we are going to grow because if this. I am so excited to push my community farther by being able to have a Twitter-esque platform within my own publication. I am SO excited.
Agreed! I've wanted this for a long time.
Luckily we have been patient and told them what we wanted and we’re getting it!
I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours. - John4:38
I'm enjoying it so far. Hopefully it all remains a lovely community place and doesn't descend into "the internet"...
Well said!
Also, creating a network with writers too!
So many great minds in one place makes me happy!
For writers are readers!
what are "readers"?? heh
It's the opposite. The injuries are unreported because the FDA changed the reporting of injuries for the drug in 2021. The Fifth Circuit noted this it its decision:
*Women who take these drugs are susceptible to torrential bleeding. In fact, the risk of severe bleeding with chemical abortion is five times higher than from surgical abortion. And these situations can quickly go from bad to worse." (p. 14)
and:
*After eliminating that adverse-event reporting requirement, FDA turned around in 2021 and declared the absence of non-fatal adverse-event reports means mifepristone is safe… It’s unreasonable for an agency to eliminate a reporting requirement for a thing and then use the resulting absence of data to support its decision." (p. 35)
And as noted by Judge Kacsmaryk in his ruling on Friday, April 7, FDA acquiesced—gave up—on its (former) safety concerns, and he hints that political pressure might have caused the FDA to "forego its proposed safety precautions":
"The Court does not second-guess FDA’s decision-making lightly. But here, FDA acquiesced on its legitimate safety concerns—in violation of its statutory duty—based on plainly unsound reasoning and studies that did not support its conclusions. There is also evidence indicating FDA faced significant political pressure to forego its proposed safety precautions to better advance the political objective of increased 'access' to chemical abortion—which was the 'whole idea of mifepristone.' ” (p. 57)

Read the 5th Circuit Court order here: https://nfg-dm-bee.s3.amazonaws.com/images/txjf/Unpublished%20Order.pdf
Define "torrential bleeding," as that's how I would have described days 2, 3, and 4 of my "normal" 7-day period.
Angie, that was the comment of the 5th Circuit Court Judge in the April 12, 2023, decision. From page 12 of that decision, the court enumerated many risks, first by citing the FDA-approved “Patient Agreement Form,” which is part of the REMS for mifepristone. In items 4-7 of the boilerplate on the form, #4 lists "heavy bleeding (soaking through two thick full-size sanitary pads per hour for two hours in a row)."
The court said:
"FDA thus cannot deny that serious complications from mifepristone are certainly impending. Those complications are right there on the 'Patient Agreement Form' that FDA itself approved and that Danco requires every mifepristone user to sign. According to the applicants, more than 5,000,000 women have taken this drug since the 2000 Approval. FDA Stay App. 1. That means that, again according to the applicants’ own information, between 100,000 (2%) and 350,000 (7%) of mifepristone users had unsuccessful chemical abortions and had to 'talk with [their]provider[s] about a surgical procedure to end [their] pregnanc[ies].' 2023 Mail-Order Decision at 10. " pp. 12-13.
The court wrote paragraphs later that "Mifepristone users who present themselves to the plaintiffs have required blood transfusions, overnight hospitalization, intensive care, and even surgical abortions. PI App. 205–06." p. 13. Then the court gave specific testimony from two doctors, one who cited "blood transfusion from hemorrhage" and another who cited
"very heavy bleeding followed by significant abdominal pain and a fever. When I saw her in the emergency room, she had evidence of retained pregnancy tissue along with endometritis, an infection of the uterine lining. She also had acute kidney injury, with elevate creatinine. She required a dilation and curettage (D&C) surgery to finish evacuating her uterus of the remaining pregnancy tissue and hospitalization for intravenous (IV) antibiotics, IV hydration, and a blood
transfusion. I spent several hours with her the day of her surgery/hospital admission, keeping me from my primary patient responsibilities in the labor and delivery unit and requiring me to call in an additional physician to help cover those responsibilities.PI App. 194–95." p. 14.
Also on p. 14 of the ruling is another doctor's testimony of "torrential bleeding." He told the court that "Women who take these drugs are susceptible to “torrential bleeding.” PI App. 170, 215. In fact, “the risk of severe bleeding with chemical abortion is five times higher
than from surgical abortion.” PI App. 879. And these situations can quickly go from bad to worse."
He testified: "One of my patients, who was about nine weeks pregnant, had previously been treated by hospital staff for a pulmonary embolism with anti-coagulants. She was advised that she could not seek a chemical abortion because it was contraindicated due to the medications; yet the woman left the hospital and sought an abortion at Planned Parenthood of Indiana. The
woman was given mifepristone by the doctor at Planned Parenthood and took the drug. The woman called an Uber for a ride home from Planned Parenthood. The woman began to
experience bleeding and other adverse effects from the mifepristone. The woman’s Uber driver did not take her home because she was so ill and instead brought her to the hospital’s
emergency department. At the hospital, the woman came under my care. The woman had not yet taken the second abortion drug, misoprostol. I treated the patient for the adverse effects she suffered and told her not to take the misoprostol given to her by Planned Parenthood because of the grave risk that she could bleed out and die. PI App. 216–17." pp. 14-15.
Another doctor recounted an experience where he treated a patient—who “suffered from two weeks of moderate to heavy bleeding, and then developed a uterine infection”—by providing her "with intravenous antibiotics” and performing a D&C procedure. PI App. 886. If the patient had
waited a few more days to go to the hospital, the doctor predicted that “she could have been septic and died.” PI App. 886. Another doctor testified that he has encountered “at least a dozen cases of life-threatening complications” from these drugs, and the frequency of these emergency situations has only increased over time. PI App. 865." p. 15.
From this and more, I gather than "torrential bleeding" is more than what my mother used to call "flooding," like what you must experience in your periods. I gather it must be such severe bleeding that it is life-threatening, requires transfusions, and certainly interferes with normal activity, overcoming all other issues of life at that time. A torrent is a rushing, violent flow of liquid; a raging and tumultuous outpouring, rapid and intense, according to Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary, 1977.
"Flooding" has different meaning to every woman, but I can say the description of "2 full-size pads for 2 hours straight" certainly does not exceed my monthly torment. And those "normal periods" also caused dangerous anemia.
Also, 2 of the cases of severe danger cited in the above excerpt were undoubtedly caused by the patients 'own actions. The first deliberately flouted medical advice and the second ignored the need for followup.
I'm not saying the drugs are without danger - no drug is - but pregnancy and delivery also come with inherent risks. A woman has the right to decide for herself which risks she wants to take.
Indeed. But she needs to be aware of the risks. And having a right does not make the action ethical or moral or safe (for example, some states and nations give the "right" of suicide.)
And here we are, judging on moral and ethical grounds when you’ve written paragraphs implying the issue is medical. One senses you’ve cherry -picked your examples.
Ethics and morals are also personal choices. As long as my decisions are only a danger to me, they're really no one else's business.
Yes, personal choices. Are decisions only a danger to you? John Donne's poem suggests we are interconnected and have more influence than we think. Pretty old stuff, but it still moves me:
"No Man Is an Island"
No man is an island,
Entire of itself;
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less,
As well as if a promontory were:
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were.
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.
Point taken.
And, I want to thank you for an enjoyable discussion. I had forgotten that such things were possible online.
almost old-fashioned, right?
I"m having trouble with spacing on SUBSTACK NOTES, and I cannot underline or italicize. Do you do that by putting note in a Word document first and putting in the formatting?
I havent written in Substack Notes, but in regular posts you can italicize by defining words and doing a control I....you can choose to have links appear as underlined text by going to your publication's Settings page, clicking "Edit theme" in the Basics section, then selecting underlined links in the Typography section under Branding. The editor also offers other formatting options like bold, italics, strikethrough, and various heading styles. Not sure if that addresses Substack Notes....but no harm...gluck
Pat---I have a degree in medical science and the data on the "Pill" is correct, it has a great track record over the past 20 some odd years. Nothing is 100% safe. The few cases that did experience negative side effects were blown way out of proportion by pro-life activists. I don't know where you got your information but it's medically incorrect. Just a bunch of smoke thrown up by anti-abortionists to cloud the issue. If there was something wrong with the "Pill" there would be no way women, as a group, would remain loyal users, especially the women who have used the drug multiple times. Don't listen to lose lips flapping in the breeze.
Pat-- Further more you're position is founded on material written by a pro-life organization. These people will slant the truth in an attempt to embellish their position which is totally against abortion. The "Pill" is part of their enemy. They will attack any and all methods women have at their disposal to end an unwanted pregnancy, which is a woman's right. Don't believe the crap these repressive groups live by, ignorance makes a poor leader.
Pat--You do have something to look forward to, when George Santos gets unelected he is in line to become the new spokes person for the Pro-Life movement. Then you can have complete faith in everything that far right religious group of ostriches has to say. Why the big bird you may ask, because their heads are buried deep in the sands of stupidity.
Bizarre ideological tribalism
e.---I know,but it fits.
Donald-
Speaking of lips flapping in the wind! Gag me with a spoon.
Unlike you just throwing out wild generalities supported only by the fact that you supposedly have a degree in medical science (which implies that your opinion carries more weight than others), at least Pat took the time to cite his sources.
Based on the citations in the ruling, I would want to know more....or are you accusing all of the testifying doctors of lying? And, by the way, when you say a "few cases," how many is that?
And please don't try to tell me that government agency decisions are based solely on data and science and that they don't give in to pressure. Just look at how the CDC caved to pressure from teacher unions.
Frank-If we are to believe the findings concerning the side effects of the pill in question, more people die from Viagra and Penicillin then from the pill, nothing is perfect.
Frank--Pat's source is a Pro-life organization hell bent on out lawing the practice of abortion. Those people are responsible for at least 11 deaths, more like murders, from clinic bombings. Though shalt not kill or does that only go for one side of the equation? You can't believe a word they say.
Donald- I truly don't have a dog in this fight. I don't like late term abortions, but I think girls/women should have the right to correct a mistake early in the process.
That said, I really like facts. When you offer nothing but unfounded statements you sound like an extremist on the other side. Maybe I missed it, but where do you find that Pat's source is a Pro-life organization? And when you make a statement like "But she's a Republican, lost and gone forever" you've shown your cards. You've shown that you're likely "lost and gone forever." Not because of your political affiliation, but because of your statement that categorizes half of the country in that way.
Seriously, I would like to see facts that back up your statements. In particular, how many is a "few cases."
Otherwise, I enjoyed the discourse and have a good day!
Frank --She sent me a link in one of her posts so I looked it up. The organization was a national Pro-life group. My information is taken from a national data base collected on the abortion pill for over the past 20 years. Anyone can access it. The trouble is they don't want to believe it. I agree with you on the late term issue, I'm only in favor of the first trimester procedures unless the mother's life is in danger or there is a problem with the pregnancy. The Pro-Live groups are in the minority, this is America where the majority rules. Put the issue on a national referendum and let the people decide in 2024. That's the easiest way to settle it. Then let the states hash out the details with the understanding the procedure is legal anywhere in this country. No rogue state objections.
Donald- We found some middle ground!! We're in total agreement on what we favor! I agree that Pro-Life groups are in the minority, but I think abortion on demand (including late term) advocates are, too. I think a referendum on what we agree on would pass overwhelmingly......the extreme on either end won't. But based on the SCOTUS ruling I don't think a referendum will fly. It will have to be state by state.
I enjoyed the debate! I love happy endings.
Frank--There is wisdom over there where you are. It takes a good soul to find agreement in disturbed waters. I to love a good "talk." I look forward to our next chat. Stay safe. If we can do this why does it have to stop with us?
Looks like DOJ is asking SCOTUS to intervene in this case. The appeals court ruling means mifepristone will remain available but only under requirements from 2000. The FDA loosened requirements in recent years, including allowing drug dispensation by mail. But the lower court case has not even been adjudicated. In the past SCOTUS has been reluctant to intervene in the middle of cases-in-chief, that is, until they were determined by lower courts.
CNN is mental sewage, mostly (I'm Independent/NPP, not "left" or "right"). What was your reason for wading into the CNN sewer?
e.--Finding a momentary refuge from the "_hit" everyone finds on Fox.
e.--I spent my entire teenage years in the 60's, we both seem to have survived the ordeal.
I grew up in a military family, so I got used to explosions, rapid emergency descents in aircraft, near crashes, hiding from MPs, being forced to wear jacket and tie to kiddie birthday parties in the officers club, dangerous vacations at Japanese hotels that allowed male children under 5 years old into the ladies hot tub room, etc. lol
How is "everyone" "on Fox"???
If I watch cable TV at home, I turn on WGN/NewsNation. Watching O'Reilly and Cuomo banter is pretty priceless as far as infotainment goes. Their standard national, daily news is pretty non-ideological/centrist as far as mainstream culture goes.
Otherwise I look at lots of "heterodox" content on social media and various web sites.
(I just saw a headline pop up on my phone about the SCOTUS temporarily halting the lower court cases.)
These attacks are a side effect of Prescription drugs and social media addled psyches. Pharma-Bought media and Politicians love it when you focus on the tool instead of the drivers of the behaviors.

No problem. Let me know if you find Substack Notes useful in your writing/publishing endeavors.
Hooray! This is a wonderful thing. I've been using it for a few weeks and so far, it's pretty much everything I'd want to see in a service like this ... plus more besides, like the way it integrates with everything else at Substack. As a standalone, it'd be great, but as a plugged-in part of the whole, it's just terrific how easy it is to use and to click sideways from it into other stuff you're doing on this platform.
Madly good. I hope the whole damn world drops by to give it a spin.
Thanks for building with us Mike!
This thing won’t work without threads.
Katie - See my question above about whether there's a ready made email to send to our subscribers introducing Notes?
Thank YOU for making it so easy and rewarding to do so.
THRILLING!!!!!
This is exciting.
yeah, thrilling.

One unexpected benefit already: finding great Substacks that weren't on my radar.
Excited to experiment with this!
We can't wait to see you in Notes!
Honestly, I'm surprised the Substack crowd is responding so positively. So many "this replaces Twitter!" comments out there. Twitter is what I came here to avoid, so formatting these new posts to look like tweets is ??? Big thumbs down, going to be spending much less time on Substack to avoid this new change. In fact, I was getting ready to start my own Substack, and I've just about lost all interest from this update.
I'm super excited to try Notes. Connecting with other writers and readers is all I do on other social platforms *cough* the bird one *cough* so hopefully this can augment, if not replace, my presence there. Thanks for doing this, Substack team.
I do hope this replaces my current need to use Twitter
"need"? Does anyone really "need" to use Twitter?
As long as I can get referrals from a new source, I'm happy
Just tried to Restack and got a 500!
Just uhh, unplugging it and plugging it back in!

So excited for the new Notes tool!
Hell yeah! This is great news!
There definitely needs to be a way to now browse Notes by topic. Discovery is pretty rough on that front.
I agree with you, Jared.
What if I only want to receive long form content from people and don’t want to see their Notes? How do I change that? I’m seeing a lot of people on Notes who I don’t subscribe to and not sure I want them in my feed.
Hey Andrew, notes do not go out via email so if you just want long form posts, you can stick to the inbox.
In Notes, you should see the writers you subscribe to in the "Subscribed" tab.
Also, I’m not allowed to just stick to the inbox. A note someone I subscribe to sent popped up in my notifications. Meaning that I’m going to receive notifications in the same place I would receive replies to comments or reactions to comments.
If someone I subscribe to is using Notes a lot, I’m going to get spammed with notifications for someone who is talking about things I don’t care about. I don’t read 100% of the emails I get from people I subscribe to because I don’t always care what they think about a particular issue but I might care about their views on a different issue.
Based on the way the system is currently set up? I’m going to get a lot of spam notifications.
Agreed. We should be able to opt out of notifications for notes. And we should not get notifications for people we are not subscribed too! What I like about Substack is seeing people I choose to. Having some major concerns about how this feature is rolling out.
It looks like we can to some extent but it's not obvious how easy it is.
Yeah I think an option to hide notifications from Notes should be a thing. Perhaps it's already there somewhere?
Yeah, I just looked on the desktop version and it looks like you can hide Notes from particular people. You just have to click the three dots and look at the drop down menu to "hide all notes from" whoever it is.
Except that I’m going through Notes and seeing a bunch of people who I’ve never heard of and based on the notes they’ve sent so far, I don’t want to have them in my feed. You say that I am getting notes from people I subscribe to and people they recommend. What if I don’t care about people they subscribe to or recommend? What if I just want the people I subscribe to in my feed? How do I edit the feed to eliminate people those I subscribe to recommend or follow?
This is a great way to connect with everyone! I can’t wait to try it!
Yes! I can't wait to use it. 😊
Just been trying it out. Absolutely brilliant.
How do we mute these notifications on the mobile app? It’s already too much.
Just try muting the substack app notifications on your phone settings->app notifications section Charlotte
Done! Thank you.
I actually did this and the notifications haven’t stopped... perhaps there is a delay...
I hear you

This is great! There's one thing missing for me, though. I follow a bunch of topics, and that's already an information overhead to filter out. It would be great to create custom themes and streams to keep the feed clean by custom topics.

I just sent my first note, and now I realize I did it wrong -- because I didn't figure out WHO it goes to. NOT to my subscribers, right? Anyway, I feel a bit overwhelmed, like I can't keep up with everything: podcasts, chats, and now notes. I'm afraid I won't have enough time to WRITE, because there's so much to READ!
It just goes on a timeline and anyone who subscribes to you can click to see it if they are online within the time you sent it and there’s not tonnes more after it. It’s in real time - no algorithms
Thank you, so it's easier than I thought.
Can anyone explain the difference between this and the new ‘chats’ facility?
Chats go out to your Subscribers. Notes are public / algorithmically curated.
Ah I see. Thank you for that :)
Thank you for adding ‘restack’ to the lexicon. 🙏

Let's give twitter and blue light technology a run for their money
https://romanshapoval.substack.com/p/the-1-emf-youve-forgotten-about
I'm debating whether I want to interact with my audiences in Notes, or just with other writers. I'm trying to establish/maintain healthy boundaries with my audiences (I operate 3 newsletters), so that I'm not constantly engaging with them.
I honestly can’t find where to post a note. Am i the only one?
It’s on the bottom of your navigation bar on the app. Second icon from the left. If you’re on desktop... I’m not sure
I haven't done one yet but I believe on desktop it's the second icon down on the left under the inbox icon.
Hooray! My favorite thing about it is that it's a community of writers you subscribe to and that your writers recommend - an organic community. No wonder I'm enjoying Notes so much - heading back there now :) :)
Woohoo 🎉
Love Notes. The only issue I have noticed is it may be all too popular. We may in fact overwhelm and dilute ourselves with too much popularity and such a surfeit of content as we have seen on Twitter.
As long as we find like minds to connect with in the network. What I don’t like about twitter and other platforms was the inundated adtech in the feeds, and suggesting content / folks I didn’t care to connect with. So much noise.
True. Trust we can avoid all that here.
This is what I've been waiting for!
So excited for this feature! Thank you substack team!
Really excited to try this! I've been saying for a while that I wished for a platform that could give us both longform and shortform options.
I didn't get the template to announce to my subscribers, though! Any alternate route to get there?
And since you say you're looking forward to rapid evolution... ;) I'd love to see some Tweetdeck-esque functionality (or at least the option for it). I've been on Twitter since 2008, and most of that time, I used it through Tweetdeck, not the Twitter app or website. The columns were just invaluable for me. I loved being able to see my notifications next to my feed, to see scheduled posts, to follow a hashtag, all on the same dashboard. Here, it'd be fun to be able to see longform and shortform feeds side-by-side. That sort of functionality would make Substack's dash one of the things I leave open on my browser at all times.
Looking forward to this! I deleted most social media accounts a few years ago and was wondering about methods of reaching more readers for my new Substack. Notes seems like a great place to start!
This is BRILLIANT! It does sound a bit like the social media that we all would need and miss, the one where constructive, creative people come together to engage in nice conversation. Like a better version of anything we have already. Thank you, Substack!
Hi I write about educational trends I need some help to get my Substack newsletter back https://tatianatorres.substack.com/ can someone at @substack team help me?
Hey Tatiana, please write to our support team and they can help https://support.substack.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360001267491
Hi Katie yes I already sent a support ticket 5 days ago no reply yet my email is contacto@tatianatorres.net thanks and I need some help
Interesting. I bet this is why elon is restricting Substack links.
There is a clear difference between living in essence and living for your existence.
I venerate the Celestial Dung Beetle Goddesses, and supplicate them for guidance and spiritual union with the Mystic Dungball that is filled with the fecund blessing and essence of Beetle Eggs/Larvae. Every day existence provides a profusion of holistic insights into the source of mean brown memes (Spiral Dynamics/Integral).

This is quite interesting! My hope is that substack continues to be an inspiring place
A one in a lifetime opportunity. This is going to be the next big social network, and the could get the throne in terms of value shared.
Loved loved loved it
My version of the app doesn’t have a button for Notes.
Love it
Please Note (pun intended): update your Substack reader app if you don’t see the Notes icon. I had to do that right now
Dear Substack, you seem to have taken away the settings button on the android app when you added a "notes" icon and a "notifications" icon. I now have no way to adjust my notification settings. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Please return my settings button, ASAP!!!
Shared this with the team!
EXCITING!
But will we be able to share links to Twitter? 😂
Only if they link back here, presumably. Just kidding.
Twitter is getting tedious so hoping to find a nice replacement here
First “note” out in the world 🌍 https://substack.com/profile/8406699-claire-venus/note/c-14452712
Ooh exciting. Now do I have anything worth saying….😂😂😂
It’s like stage fright at first isn’t it 😆
Yes. A bit strange 😂
I'm so looking forward to this!
So exciting! It’s time to throw away those Twitter accounts once and for all!
Yes!!
Super excited to give this a go today! I didn’t have an option to publish one here in the app when I checked but I’ll keep checking 🖊️
I m totally new and unsure how this all works but I’m thinking and HOPING that it can replace Tweeter for me as I’m dismayed/disgusted at it since Musk took it over.
Amazing 🤩
Cool
I am angry as hell about how Notes work. Here is why:
Cyber harassment came to @SubstackInc
.I criticized outlandish article by Todd Kashdan urging readers to be good rebels and dissidents and attack their universities, a theme he is using to promote his book I questioned the wisdom of this, noting accurately, that his university had barred him from having graduate students, and had lost a legal challenge in court. Perhaps he had an ax to grind. Todd sent email threatening to blackmail me with doxxed embarrassing material he had gotten elsewhere. He said he would use it against me if I posted a link to the article. We both had dirt in our past.
I was not intimidated , he posted the doxxed material and then blocked me so I could not see or respond further. I have receipts from his trying to de-platform my opening talk at the Boston FIRE faculty talk. We were lured to Substack Notes in order to free from this crap. What gives?
In the last two days, my replies to my subscriptions show up on Notes, and my replies on Notes show up in the commenting sections of my subscriptions. I don't understand the point of this. It makes Notes superfluous. My understanding was that comment sections are closed spaces and Notes was an open space like Twitter. If I want a reply to show up in the more open space, I'll use Notes. If I want a reply to stay in the closed space, I'll use the comments section. Why the crossover?
Hashtags or no hashtags? That is the question.
So Notes are like Reels for Substack?
Love this new feature and looking forward to exploring it!
Can you help me get the template back to send a note about Notes to all my Subscribers? Thanks!
I will be lightening up this platform and the sexy brains of my readers with regular notes that help you live a more meaningful life in this age of disruption.
Disruption ?
Yes, I am going all in for system change baby !
What are your thoughts ?
There is already a bunch of stuff on disruption/anti-fragility and something like 70 documented sites in the "liminal" discursive space (IDW/metamodern/integral/game-b).
Crypto? lol
web search: "p2p foundation crypto"
https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/Cryptocurrencies
Will there eventually be a way to filter what we see in the Notes feed? I’d love to see new notes *only* from the writers I subscribe to and not what they’ve replied to. I’ve noticed the feed is quickly filling up with activity adjacent to what I really want to see—which is a spot simply to catch up on new notes!
Use the "Subscribed" button at the top of the Notes feed.
I want to be able to use the iPhone "share to" feature to post external content to a note. Does that work?
noob here, can anyone tell me what search functions exist on Substack? also as a current twtr user I enjoy the ability to interact globally seems that's not likely to be possible here, sigh...
I like the new idea of sharing snippets of work, quotes, links on notes. It is a great way to showcase and also share your creativity with others. It is good way to get your word or work out there to be seen by people. Good job, Substack. I am enjoying and having writing on Substack platform. Thank you for this opportunity.
Have you written about meditation and aviation/piloting?
I'm a USAF "brat" (my late father was a combat fighter pilot, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, etc.). I was a glider pilot when young. Since I'm recently retired, I'm thinking about getting a Part 103 motorglider (Merlin lite) or other ultralight. Thanks
Nice to know that your late father was a combat fighter pilot, WW2, Korea, vietnam. It is nice to know that you are working on Part 103 motorglider. Yes, I have written about aviation and meditation. You can ready, "joy of flying." That is my story of aviation. What do you write about?
Thanks, I'll look up that book/title. I don't write anything other than comments on social mediaat this point. lol
Some writer I know want me to write an article, but I'm not comfortable doing so. What I might do is create a "clearning house" on my substack account about evolutionary psychology, integral theory (Aurobindo, Gebser, Wilber, etc.) comparative religion, paradigm shifts and cultural evolution.
I would just link to material from people 1000x smarter than I am, such as Iain McGilchist and David Chapman:
https://metarationality.com/stem-fluidity-bridge
one bit of feedback: some people have pointed out that the culture on Notes feels kind of like a Linked In vibe atm (like Matt Yglesias said with the comment "More office happy hour than friends at the bar") . I think if that is indeed identified as a culture issue down the track that prevents people from feeling like they easily can post their thoughts without too much barrier, then maybe this should be considered too?
A solution could be even to just have some of the prompts for your first Note (like "Hello, Notes! What's going on?") have a little less punctuation to feel more casual & steezy. If people can't have steeze, they might not wanna engage freely in the social network and drive up engagement.
an alternate prompt could just be something like "hey" or "what's up?" to appeal to Zoomers as well. We like things the less try-hard the better I guess?
New car smell, but software.
Expect nasty, abrasive, annoying people (as well as kooks, tr0llz and b0tz) to show up in Notes soon, they are already common in the comments sections of various substacks.
One of the new features, besides supporting pictures/graphics in Notes is that a non-admin block is now available. That might dis-incentivize some of the tr0llz to stay away since blocking is a way to hold them accountable for acting like bazz and b0t wholes.
OK, took a look. Decided to take a pass. I constantly try out new resources; some I keep, some I delete, and periodically I review what I subscribe to and evaluate what I need to stick with and what I need to leave behind. I'm full up right now. I tend to focus on a topic for research and to test out ideas. Notes might work out well for people who got something out of Twitter, or are more random than I am. But it is overwhelming. Not my cup of tea, and I don't see how it would enrich the way I work, though it might be perfect for somebody else's style. I do see folks there who I like and respect, but I prefer the long form, and deep dives. I'll stop in from time to time just to check things out. But, nope, can do w/o the clutter.
It’s not working for me (and my app is updated) 💔
Hmmm....have you quit the app and tried to restart?
It's working now :)
Thanks for the new tool of Substack, I'm really looking forward to being able to use it and get more subscribers with it. If you like comics, I invite you to visit our page, thank you.
P.S. I would like support for my original language in the future: Portuguese (Brazil)
Yes, I think Notes is the only place on Substack for graphics content, pics, videos, etc.?
I believe that Substack is on the way, I hope that other people get to know the platform and that it gains more and more notoriety in social media...
This'll definitely help me get started!
In notifications comments from a substack article look the same as a comment on Notes
I found that a bit confusing
As you probably know, social media is essentially a large database that stores content (user input). My guess is that in substack's database architecture, all comments are stored in the same way, but are "pointed" at differently in standard posts vs Notes.
From what I can tell, Notes:
1. has a more free-form "twitter" or facebook-feed interface that displays content from multiple writers or content creators
2. allows pictures/videos in comment threads
3. has a non-admin block feature to weed out undesirable people from polluting a comment thread.
The Deactivation Rebellion killed the Blue Bird. Finally! Well done, let's get it on. Say what you wanna say, say it any way you wanna say. Word.
I am, surprisingly, super into this!
I am really excited about this. My biggest challenge has been forwarding people towards SubStack from other platforms. Notes effectively removes that.
Any shot you’ll ever allow for videos @substack?
Wow!Nice one.👍
As a person who's been a bit overwhelmed with where to start connecting with other writers, this is awesome! Cheers to another way to connect!
Very excited about getting started with Notes. Thank you for getting it out so quickly.
This will be a great way for me to share my growth hacking content to my readers :D
This is a major bug. If you have two substacks with the same users the notes goes to all which is not what you want. We need to send notes based on the substack. Example I have a political and creative writing substack. But it I send a notes I cant specify which substack I want it associated with. It defeats the purpose as my creative writing followers dont want to read politics and vis versa. Any ideas?
I’m intrigued. For a long time people have claimed the world doesn’t need more social platforms. Maybe it just needs one for writers!
“Invite subscribers to join the conversation. After you send your first note, you will see a template to announce to your subscribers that you are using Notes. Send them an email or share a link to any of your notes on social media to get the word out.”
Note that this didn’t happen for me. I posted my first note on the web site.
Hi Omar, do you see the template in your dashboard today?
Ugh, this is just wonderful.
Still waiting for Notes to show up in iOS. Delays in the approval process?
Hard quit the app and restart it. That worked for me.
What the Hell is SubStack and why am I getting it??? Please unsubscribe me from this "What ever it is."
Great feature however the iOS remains immensely sluggish. Is the developer team aware of this issue?
Gonna be GREAT!
Probably a stupid question, but...
Given that I have not YET started a Substack publication* (I'm so torn on what to write... yes, I know I just need to get started :D)... is there any use in publishing Notes at this point?
My understanding is that I'd be Noting into a void, since only one's publication subscribers or subscribers of recommending-pubs can see one's notes, right?
All that aside, this is yet an additional push for me to start writing on Substack; I'm SUPER excited about what I expect to be a kinder, smarter, less-snarky version of Twitter, and am eager to jump in :)
*the "Adam's Substack" referenced above is just a shell at the moment
Could be worth it. Notes will be the Wild West for awhile so there’s no formula answer anyone can give you
Thank you :). Posted! https://substack.com/profile/4412244-adam-lasnik/note/c-14476403
Terrific!
Thank you Substack for another great feature! Also, another way to just keep discovering and adding more Substacks to read. I'm swamped, but in a good way.
Loving it so far!
Will the feature known as Chat become Notes?
I look forward to sharing fotos of my dog here.
It works! https://substack.com/profile/1253585-nico-lumma/note/c-14469377
New user here, Notes pop up and I write and all these people write notes, one huuuuuge feed of notes more notes, notes on notes! Huh. I am going back to finishing my chapter! Take note! 😎
Another great product. Very soon we will be able to sell our books directly from this platform.
yes , I can after few days
Feels like a good time to launch a product extention like this... Consider my interest piqued.
However, hopefully I won’t be writing a blog post about them soon; given I exclusively write about tech/cultural things that ended in failure…
Loving it! Feels like this will be a great place to discover more awesome writers 🙌
That's fine, but like I've already said:
In the end, your practicing of Free Speech will decide whether you fly (and make History) or walk (and make some $$).
I've been around this stuff.
Good luck
I’m thinking I will make 2 Notes. The first Note will explain what I am wondering might happen to a reader who reads my Note number 2. Then, in Note 2 I will supply the first “chapter” that I have written of my “book”, which I am getting the second draft done these days and wanting to share for comments of all kinds. Maybe I will only need one Note. It will be 2,000 words so a fat Note it will be,
Amazing addition to Substack, I’m looking forward to using Notes!
A.M. Productions
Love it!
Great concept, thank you!
It’s Twitter. It’s not right. Don’t go after someone else’s lunch. There is enough space for substack unique model.
Quick question: Was this especially for my birthday? 😁
My substack (for anyone who is interested) is a mixed bag anyway.
I write poems and articles. Rants and ramblings. I was banned from Twitter as I am one of those ‘Conspiracy Theorists’ 😉apparently…… Stop by and say hi ❤️😘
I like the idea of this. I didn’t spend any time on Twitter so I think I’ll just observe for a while!
Hooray! Probably for the best that we can't put GIFs & memes in the comments here, or we'd be paralyzed by the thread's visual stimuli.
Look forward to playing around with this
Separately if you’re looking for discussions around contrarian investing I’m your content to follow
Let’s make Notes great over and over again!
Super exciting. The UI though and how hidden getting to “Notes” is in the mobile app is, strange. Consider putting notes in the footer menu of the main nav. Having to click: profile, and then Notes seems like a lot of work for something that should be pretty sticky, no?
Thanks for the feedback Lizelle! This is the first version and we will continue to iterate.
I think y’all might not realize that we’re actually not seeing the Notes icon in your menu unless we delete your app and reinstall it. Others say it’s there, and they had to take that step: delete and reinstall.
Looks interesting! Have posted my first note!
Awesome. Thanks for this great update!
Excellent news 👌
Cool! Would love to be able to share GIFs
Regarding the recommended writers that make up my extended network: is it possible to see who recommended them?
I'm so excited for this! Thank you Substack team!!!
This looks like a great addition. I'll test it with my latest newsletter (You can live a fulfilling life with mental illness) and see how my audience reacts to it. 👏🏼
Exciting step! Best of luck to you and everyone here. 🙌
I don’t see the “Notes” tab in the mobile app. Any ideas?
I had to press my profile pic
Actually, that only shows you your own Notes. Not the feed.
Yup, found it. Wow, that’s pretty hidden.
Thanks, Claire. I’ll try that.
I deleted and then reinstalled the app. Problem solved.
Thanks! Yeah, seems like it needs an update.
I had to delete the app on my iPhone and re-download it again from the App store. Took two minutes and worked like a charm. I haven't tried it on my Galaxy Flip4 phone yet.
I will be live-Noting the operatically idiotic and self-wrought demise of Elon Musk with this new feature. Thank you.
Looking forward to giving this a try! 😊
You've gone done it again! Hi, Pastor Jonas. Long time no speak or read. I've been a member of Substack since it's birth. I have not had the time and have found it complicated as it grew. But you've just encouraged me to try again. Thank you, and blessings on this beautiful Floridian day.

Thank you! Endless possibilities!
That's odd...I just downloaded the app a few weeks ago, and I do NOT see a Notes icon at the bottom (such as displayed in the first photo of this article). So I thought, "oh, maybe I have to turn on a Notes setting", so I went to my settings, but there is no option for that either? Am I missing something?
I'm just going public with my Substack this very week (after circling it warily for a year). After yesterday's softest of soft-launches, I have 18 subs. What a sweet opportunity for all of you kind souls to experiment with getting some random newbie few more subs via 'Notes'. Thanks in advance for my epic success.
@RealBPL on "X", "Real Boiling Point Live" on Substack, is a Patriot, who gave me a shout out on "X". Now, I have to return the favor. God bless you, my Patriot brother. Together, we save this great Republic!
Thank you for the new opportunity to share information in abbreviated formats.
I love this opportunity to share new ideas and connect with the Substack community. Great place to meet!!
Intriguing new idea! Look forward to trying it
Sounds great. I'd like to monetize my page-- but I'm held back by my lack of formal training as a writer and my personal apprehensions.
I surely will make all the common mistakes while I'm learning and I guess that also gives it potential value-- value that we can not yet realize.
Not for me. I can't stand touchy feely woke shit.
This gave me new suggestions of writers to follow :-) Thanks Notes
Where can I find the Notes I've written on my dashboard? Am I blind? #OldNSlo
I think u should visit this site https://theminecrftapk.com/ for best review
Question: I'm being notified of new Notes followers (as opposed to subscribers) but I can't find a list of where/who they are? Can anyone help?
Comment: How does this affect our true subscriber count on the Substack platform? Do we now have two subscriber totals: Substack and Notes?
I love it that I can create notes on my phone :o) (happy face)
When a figure appears who dares give voice to widespread sentiments, that figure becomes an influencer and potentially the leader of a movement... or philosophy... or religion. It's happened thousands of times, and in a mysterious little island in the South Pacific it's happening again.
Even though I am never quite sure how Sub stack will eventually impact my exposure as a writer, one thing for sure it has given me is the push to write. My journey in writing has been long and within this last year I have gotten closer and closer to my voice. A Soulful Journey to Healing while in its infancy is something I hope to eventually shape into a memoir. Next I'll see how notes can move that along.
This sounds great. I'm curious about it. I've just gone through a major life change which has been hard but also enlightening. I've been writing about it, but as I look back over it I need to do some real rewriting. I feel I have discovered within myself a new strength and awareness. I'm hoping this might be a place to share some of that insight.
I wrote in notes this morning, minimized (not closed) the app to look for a photo, opened the app and my writing disappeared. Any chance you guys can incorporate auto save eventually? I can write elsewhere on my phone if you think that's best. Not a lot of extra time on my hands to re-write or lose things. Though it was probably too long for notes now that I understand what it is. What's the deal with notes vs. chat? Is chat just for subscribers? Also, why can't I do a regular post in the app? I'm new to it so maybe it's in a spot I'm missing? Thanks! @substackwriters
I'd rather write about consciousness, the downsides of First Contact and the chilling consequences of true Interstellar warfare and other SF topics, so I can get some feedback before I implement these in my latest novel. Anybody interested?
Since Office Hours has been discontinued until three weeks later, I might as well do something productive like writing. Any preferences? Essays about the topic du jour; that is how stupid Artificial Intelligence still is? There are so many, often contradicting articles about it in the regular media that I'm getting AI fatigue. wake me when it shows signs of agency, and is not a twisted mirror plagiarism generator or reality faker.
Well, I'll be triply damned. Last week I asked when the Substack Office Hours normally take place, and @substack responded every Thursday at 19.00 to 20.00 CEST. So here I am at 19.00 hrs ready to participate.
But no, 4 hours earlier a shoutout thread is started (of which I, of course, was not aware), and also announced that substack is taking a two week break from Office Hours. What can I say? I am not on the internet 24/7, so it would have greatly helped if this summer break had been announced, say a day before (and not a few hours).
Sometimes I think Substack just hates me.
So, Substack, can you do a European substack contributor (and investor) a favour? Please announce changes in schedule a bit more in advance? I'm not a bot that trawls the internet 24/7.
Many thanks in advance.
I'll try and get my head around it.
One day you’re cock of the walk, the next you’re a feather duster.
I struggle to see the difference between "Notes" and "Chat" in the app.
What's the difference when I use one or the other?
Please advice
I love to share and I feel that right now is the time to share lots of different things about how people view the future because to me we have a whole new world coming and manifesting from how people want to express their "superpowers", how they wish to discover their authentic selves after rebirthing and changing into a butterfly.
#tycoonpackaging
How do I unsubscribe from Notes? Why did we not get and OPT-IN first?
There is no unsubscribe as far as I know, just stop looking at it.
If you are asking about notifications:
https://substack.com/settings
Why can't I do this:
https://substack.com/profile/4411950-joseph-shirk/notes
?
Or
https://godparticle.substack.com/notes
Excellent addition to Substack to enable writers to expand their social media reach
How do I find my own notes if I want to reference them later? There doesn't seem to be that functionality
Notes are good but the Post is showing no option to write anything or am I missing something... Also the profile should have a username so that once can find someone easily and mention them.
Looking forward to trying this out :)

The word of God each day . Thank You John and Sue White
Thank you for this.
Are Notes visible to the public, too, or only to writers and readers who are subscribed?
❗️Question: When writers send a link to Notes to their readers, does that link *not* show what the writer actually wrote in Notes, but instead the link goes to what other writers are currently discussing in Notes? Is this the behavior that other people see? And is this how it should work?
Please leave a comment about Notes in the link to the Suggestion Box below:

Estoy ansioso por ver cuándo esta plataforma se abrirá completamente al idioma español para que los hispanohablantes tengamos las mismas oportunidades de visibilidad que los anglosajones. No olvidemos que hay 28 países donde se habla y se escribe en español y más de 63 millones de potenciales lectores...
How do I turn them off? I don't want to be bombarded with notifications.
https://substack.com/settings
Thanks. I turned it off but still get the notifications. Any suggestions?
log off and back on? close the app and reopen it?
if that doesn't work, copy/paste screen captures of your notification settings, or oitherwise describe them.
Thanks. I'm on desktop, not the app, but will try the logging out and back in.
.
So far so good, but in addition to Home, Subscribed, and Bestsellers, how about a category called Hidden Gems or something like that, for smaller Stacks that deserve a boost? As someone who got my orange checkmark literally days before Notes went live, I’m sympathetic to writers who worry that this feature will mainly amplify folks who already have a substantial audience.
Fantastic stuff and thank you. Look forward to be able to share more information and to share thoughts, opinions and more with like minded people :-)
Personally I didn't like this idea, sory.
Substack need more tools for writers, podcasters, videomakers. Who needs Twitter 2.5?
The fight with Twitter and Musk, it's also a bit strange. Didn't like it at all.
Before Musk takeover many Substack writers were banned or limited, but since then they had their account back and freedom to write again.
And that could have been a great chance to build a strong relationships between the two: a platform for writers, journalist and people to share ideas, investigations, thoughts or just express theme self, outside the Nazi controlled Google and Meta.
And a platform for quick messaging and videos back to normal to free speech as it was many years ago.
A very strong duo, for freedom of press and speech.
Then you Substack guys could have prepared a messaging service just in case things change again in Twitter, but if not, fine like it was.
So, sorry but the timing you choose to come out with Notes it's a little suspicious as all media mainstream and Governments in the western world have attacked Twitter back to free speech since Elon Musk takeover. If you would have done it in the last 3 years I would have said GREAT guys! GJ!
Not now.
And finally, sorry guys but instead of doing Notes you could have implemented a multi language Substack first, as english is not my first language as many here... Twitter instead support multi language messaging... So again, wrong timing, wrong priorities.
Hoping Notes becomes the heir to Twitter as that place has become a total cesspool of misinformation.
Looks promising, BUT I'd like an option to be able to filter out Notes from Notifications. I get more than enough to read from my subscriptions! Perhaps there is already a way? It is quite likely that others will want to read the considered pieces that make Substack special, and not have them diluted with less consequential writings.
Not sure what you mean by "filter", but there are a number of on/off options for notifications in settings:

First time leaving a note, going to kind of case the joint for a while before I dive in in the meantime hi everybody
Love, love, love this new feature. It would be nice if we could selectively hide the Suggestions on the sidebar, though.
Not a fan of this development; I don't need yet another social media outlet. I don't plan on using Notes.
I have multiple subscriptions at substack. This development makes my renewal of these subscriptions much less likely.
I think you can mostly ignore Notes and just keep using the other parts of Substack like you did before. Do you not value the substacks you are subscribed to?
Hopefully you are correct. I'm beginning to value them less and if I have to use notes to fully utilize my subscriptions then that is a decided negative imo.
myphotoanalyzer.com
I want to be able to use the iPhone "share to" feature to post external content to a note. Does that work?
I mostly use Windows/Android, but i do have the Substack app on a mini iPad, but just use it to read/comment, not write.
Does ithe iPhone app work to "share to" content to a regular substack post? If so, then you just "Restack" to move it to Notes.
Loving notes. Thank you. RIP Twitter.
Hello Substackers! I just signed up this morning and looking forward to also sharing my genius lol! Seriously though, I never signed up for Twitter and my motivation today to join Substack was learning that Elon Musk thinks NPR is a "state-affiliated media outlet!" He doesn't pay a lot in taxes, but I'm sure he thinks it's great that HE gets subsidized!
I'm an independent/NPP "centrist" (not "left", not "right") that has done a lot of reading on cultural evolution and evolutionary psychology and related topics (religion, politics, sociology, history). The evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of Musk on that issue. There has been a massive infiltration of social media and media in general ("journalism") by national security agencies and elements of STATE POLICE forces. See Lee Fang's new substack for a brilliant debunking of Mehdi Hasan attack on Matt Taibbi about the #twitterfiles
"Old twitter" was indeed involved in COLLUSION involving [EDIT: corrupt] political censorship, govt funded "NGOs" and actual govt agencies, including STATE POLICE.
At this point the US govt has not devolved into such a neo-communist regime-state that govt subsidies of tech corporations are EXPLICITLY withheld from corporations purely on the basis of ideological conformity to REGIME NARRATIVES, but I'm sure lots of extremists/radicals on the "left" would love that kind of govt totalitarianism, favoritism and nepotism.
As a matter of rational, informed analysis, the evidence and facts are overwhelmingly against your position. Sorry!
MAKE ORWELL FICTION AGAIN
I can't see how destroying the US Constitution is good for "progressive" activism.
I noticed the comment features aren't available. is Notes replacing it?
This is a comment. Where are you seeing comments not be available?
It would be cool if I could swipe just with my finger on the app in order to switch between Home and Suscribers.
On our radar!
Lovely! Btw Notes seems to be great! Well done! :-)
Many on Twitter don't like the place, but they have been trying Mastedon (which I suspect will never work well) , but they may have a built-in dislike for Substack because so many of the people they regard as evil write on Substack.
Seems very bizarre how "free speech" intersects with the left-vs-right narrative.
Most of the "big writers" I'm familiar with (heterodox/IDW types) that are critical of "woke" or identity/intersectional , New Left politics are people that were orthodox liberals/progressives/leftists prior to the outbreak of "woke" insanity.
I have read or met a number of "old school" leftists that also hate the "woke" nonsense, some of which have been fierce critics of neo-marxism (one of the pre-cursors to "woke") for many decades.
Here is my simple taxonomy of the political rectum ..... er.... spectrum:
ILLIBERAL RIGHT: classical conservatives that are authoritarian "alter and crown" types to classical racists, white supremacists, anti-semites, actual "fascists", and so forth.
ILLIBERAL LEFT: Marxists, Neo-Marxists, Neo-Communists, Neo-Feudalists (extreme corporate-state neo-communists).
LIBERAL RIGHT: classical liberals, many "libertarians" or similar. They believe in Constitutional order (free speech), but are variously opposed to big govt, the corporate-state, "cultural leftism", "political correctness, "woke", and so forth.
LIBERAL LEFT: believe in Constitutional order (free speech), but oppose the "far right" and are supportive of less radical "progressive" policies, ideas and values, including "mild" woke stuff.
One of the more useful concepts I've come across to differentiate between the ILLIBERAL and LIBERAL variants: Nassim Taleb's "Dictatorship of the Intolerant Minority".
Taleb explains why small groups of obnoxious people gain power in a system, frequently by resorting to extremist ideology and authoritarianism.
Historical LIBERALISM (Henrich @ Harvard, W.E.I.R.D.) worked against intolerant minorities via high-social-trust social institutions, such as Constitutional order and formal law, public education, banks/insurance, govt regulation, and so forth.
ILLIBERALS (both "left" and "right" totalitarians) typically attack one or more of the above elements of historically LIBERAL systems.
One shorthand method of determining if someone is really an ILLIBERAL is to ask them to define actual "evil" or "sin".
ILLIBERALS tend to have quasi-religious, cultish definitions of "evil" that reinforce groupthink and scapegoating. The is the major problem with "woke", it has descended into a cult belief system and intense tribalism.
Insightful.
I have been surprised that prior political view seems to correlate with views on public health & the war in Ukraine and also a view on racism and various new "phobias". These mostly seem like the should be independent, but they seem not.
The corrupt REGIME PROPAGANDA/CENSORSHIP machine peeled the skin off of the original "social justice" movement and slipped into it as a "woke" disguise. The whole debacle is purely psychopathic.

Searching requires pressing ENTER, I assume you can change that code to be "On change" instead of "On click"
Will be watching for insight & education offered by intelligent, thoughtful commentators. Thanks for this opportunity!

Too many exclamation points. It’s like reading a comic book.
There are no threads, and it allows images, even animations, which are a dealbreaker for me.
I do not want to read fawning gurgle about ball teams.
A new avenue for uncensored voices to grow & thrive.
Thank SS for Notes!
Uncensored = ads and hate speech and boring horseshit about sports.
Unfortunately the new(?) non-admin block function doesn't make mental sewage that people write in comments on posts completely go away like it does Notes content.
Not seeing a lot of value in Notes,
I don’t have that on my substack
Hi Tariq, you might need to restart your app.
My notes are crashing the app!
Curious to see what’s next 🙂 To me, Notes are somewhat similar to Threads. I wonder how team at Substack imagines they co-exist together.
This is absolutely awesome
Thanks to TEAM SUBSTACK
I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops. Sometimes I wonder why I am here, rather than Wordpress or other places, and while I had success with Wordpress, it wasn't a community. That's what I really like here.
I was hoping that notes would also appear on the publication homepage on the navigation bar for instance, but it seems that´s not how it works?
What would be a reason to start a thread/chat vs writing a note?
Had exactly the same question. Notes seem more familiar due to Twitter legacy compared to Threads (which have more of a Reddit vibe, maybe?)
Ah! That makes sense to me and is helpful. Thank you!
