I debated for a long time whether to switch to Substack last year from WordPress and it turned out to be the best decision. I am two months into Subtack, and I have more audience now than what I had on WordPress after a year there.
Oh yes! This is brilliant. It will enable a writer like me, who hasn’t yet turned on paid, to gauge how readers will respond to them having a paid offering.
I really appreciate this feature, even though I won't be able to use it because I've already turned on paid. The reason I love it is twofold. First, I really like that this feature gives free writers a way to test the waters for going paid. Personally, I agonized over that decision without the aid of pledges, so having something like this would've been really helpful. Glad to see other writer benefiting! Second, it's just another example of Substack's product team working to remove a common pain point for writers. Thank you for that & for all your hard work!
This! I also agonized over the decision to go paid. I would have loved to have had this data point as I weighed the decision. Very happy other writers will benefit from this new feature. Way to go Substack!
I agree...and I am miffed as to why pledges are not an option for those of us who decided to enter the paid game a few months ago. I think this could be an excellent tool to boost income and paid subscriptions...
It's great for writers who are trying to decide whether to go paid or not, but for the little ones trying hard to generate paid subscriptions...well...from my perspective, I feel a bit deflated...
I was wondering the same thing. I read several posts and suggestions on Substack about going paid even as a new writer, so I turned on my pay options almost from the beginning. Not sure if having a pledge option now makes sense for me.
Wow Hamish, I wasn’t expecting that slice of existential dread with my morning coffee today. Thanks for the support though, y’all are great, even the marketing posts are extremely well written.
Certainly a good idea, although I finally did turn on paid subscriptions which has also given me a boost. Hard relate to checking the statistics too often after putting a lot of hard work into a post 😊
This is a great feature. I don’t plan on going paid for a while, but seeing some pledges has been encouraging! Substack keeps getting better and better.
Substack Pledge letter stated it was a small high when he got that initial recognition. But I'm here to say it was a complete rush and brought tears to my eyes when saw that first subscriber appear on the screen. Until then I didn't truly realize how much I wanted to be seen, heard and appreciated for my work. Thanks for the reminder Substack 🤗👋
It shows that the folks at Substack indeed understand content creation very well, and what an average writer feels before going for their paid subscription option. Very well done.
What is this? Did I win a contest? This sounds amazing. It might be the motivation I need to stop neglecting my ‘stack, set aside some time, and write something.
I wonder how many subscribers I’ve lost in the last two months. Do I have any left? Hello …
This is why I love Substack. It feels human.
For sure it feels, a connection can be crafted in such profound ways.
Hope for the better, crafting the best. Stay Happy friends =)

Thanks for sharing! I joined Substack three days ago. But before then I was contemplating the same thing.
I pledge to support substack in any way I can. Thanks for protecting free speech and empowering writers!
I've had a couple of pledges to my one month old Substack and it's really helped to boost my confidence. 😊
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why are you in the Philippines with a Togo phone number 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙂🙂

Thank you, Michael <3
I suppose once the paid option is activated, there’s no need to pledge since readers can just show their support with a paid subscription, no?

Your About Me page is SO spot on... I feel that, too. Subscribed.
Thank you! :)
I do not regret one second to have started a substack three month ago.
Each two weeks, we have a new surprise.
I love this platform.
Thank you for what you are doing for all of us.
I saw this a couple weeks back and I think it’s great! Still curled up in the ball though…
It's getting pretty cold outside, nothing better than being curled up in a nice warm ball.

This definitely a game changer for writers. For new writer it is a blessing and rey of hope. Thank you SUBSTACK!
