All sounds great. I really need to make use of the audio features. Thanks for all the support - the balance of 'back office' contributions from Substack while still staying out the way of the creative end is clever and appreciated.

I have been patiently waiting for the Android app and am looking forward to trying it out. Thanks for working on this!

Love the focus on continuous, iterative improvement. Substack are doing a great job.

In addition to my laptop, I run Substack on Android via a browser on my phone, and this occasionally gives rise to version conflicts: thank you for the version history feature. This has been a life-saver (or at least a draft saver) on quite a few occasions for me.

I'm looking forward to the Android app being available.

Ah, that explains what happened last week to me! I usually work only on my laptop but least week I did some editing on an android tablet. The editing didn't sync. Didn't know to use the version history. Now I do. Thank you, Shane.

Yep: it happens especially when you use a different browser to your main browser and are logged in on both. But version history to the rescue! I suspect it might be the cache hasn't updated on the android.

Hmmm, same browser and not logged in at the same time 🤔 so maybe the cache. I will know in future to check for the latest version. Thankfully, I had sent myself a test email from the tablet, so I did have a copy of the edits.

One thing I would like is to have more audio options for paid subscribers. For instance, I want to offer the written version of an article for free but the audio version in the same article for paid subscribers only. Without limiting access for free subscribers to comment and other stuff.

I believe that paywalled voiceovers is on our roadmap!

Also, I am really looking forward to this. Do you know where on the roadmap it is? Is there a way to upvote features on the Substack product roadmap?

I know my subscribers like the voiceovers, so it would be a really great way for me to try and monetize to paid. Right now I see some writers publishing a text article, and then they publish a totally separate article with the title "+Audio Narration" or something along those lines. The problem with that is that you have to send a separate email, which is annoying.

The other way to do it would be to put your Voiceover at the END of the article or somewhere not at the top, as an audio clip, and pay wall it. But that isn't a great user experience, as you'd want to see the voiceover at the very top (and if you paywalled it from the top, all of the other content below it would also be paywalled, so doesn't work).

Anyways, all this is to say that I'm really looking forward to the feature!

Oh, and I'm wondering if there will be a way to measure engagement with the actual voiceovers or audio files (apart from podcasts)?

I see Mr. Fry has this feature above. Is this available to the whole platform and how can we implement on our posts? Thank you!

Okay, that would be great. I'm still working out how to use the audio feature because I don't like recording my own voice.

I use Riverside.fm to record my voice overs for articles(and podcasts) and then upload the file to Substack. Works for me.

This is EXACTLY what I want because it makes so much sense, LOVE Substack. As a creator, I never felt drawn to patreon but for some reason Substack feels right! Love all the resources and how easy to use it’s been so far

Also just checking *is it* possible yet? Or would they need to be uploaded separately under the paid subscriptions?

Expand full comment

I’m fairly certain it’s possible but I don’t know if I have exactly what I want. The audio features do allow for the audio to be behind a paywall and to give free subscribers a preview. But I haven’t used it yet because I don’t yet have what I really want. I don’t want to have to record my own voice because I don’t want it available on the internet for people to use in editing programs.

I’ve just started my Substack, and I’m so excited to grow my community! I love the idea of the Threads feature. I can’t wait until I have enough people to start using them! Excited to learn more!

Excellent, Substack is the new cutting edge for content creators!

Excited for Android! That’s a very big audience that’s been missing from the app.

Thank you for these new features. The releases give me the prompt I need to experiment and try new things and the comments from other Substackers show me the various ways to apply new features to my individual situation. Without both of those, I would never have ventured to do a narration of my newsletter, which has been very well received by my readers. Gratitude for enabling me to do more and do better.

love the podcast preview feature, great idea as I also intend to include some original music this autumn and the 'snippet' will sure be helpful.

Loved all the feature and especially that podcast segment tease one...

The speed with which you guys @ Substack are shipping new features is fastly becoming the biggest reason I love this platform 🙏☺️

It’s great to see the development. I’d love to see the possibility of paying other authors affiliate fees for premium subs generated by endorsement.

This is all amazing, well done Substack team. Really excited for the potential of the group subscriptions.

Hi "Substack"! I would like to SUGGEST a "Discover" function based on the LANGUAGE of the publications.

The writer could insert the "publication language" (or languageS: many, like me, have multilingual contents) during its creation process.

The german, italian, or spanish reader looking for contents ALSO in their language, could be able to 'discover' not only by 'categories' but by language TOO.

Thank you for your attention and great work :-)
