Writers from around the world are finding a home on Substack. Even from writers miles and miles away, we discover more great writing where we can learn about different corner of the universe or find universal truths that defy distance. That’s the beauty of Substack.
This thread is the place to share what you’ve been reading or inspired by recently published by international writers.
How to join the thread:
Are you an international writer on Substack? Introduce yourself and your work. No need to include a link to your publication: When a fellow writer clicks on your name, they will land on your profile.
Do you know of a Substack writer based outside of the U.S. and Canada? Give them a shoutout in the comments so others can check out their publication. Be sure to share a link to the publication you admire, and why.
Writers in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, we designed the second edition of Substack Grow with you in mind. We hope GMT evening meeting times will make live sessions more accessible to you. Learn more and apply.
Our team will be in the thread today from 10 a.m.–11 a.m. PST / 1 p.m.–2 p.m. EST in discovery and celebration mode with you all.
Everyday, before the European markets open, I review the previous days talking points to provide you with an easy to read, concise - Macro Economic Perspective - highlighting data and big picture fundamentals that drive asset trends and prices.
It's a 2 min daily read that'll keep you on the right side of the market.
I have Georgian friends in Russia, it's "gamardzhoba" which means hello in Georgian. During my trips through Georgia I happened to almost learn your alphabet! გმადლობთ!
Thanks for stopping by our special shoutout thread! Our team is signing off for now. We know that in many parts of the world, people are sleeping. We will be keeping an eye on the thread over the next few days to see who else stops by.
We hope to see you at our shoutout thread again next month, the first Thursday of July.
Hello everyone!!! I'm Poly, i'm an artist and a poet!! I'm pretty new here and love sharing my words to the world wide web!!! check out my poems here ! https://polyswords.substack.com/ lot of love!!!

Kia ora tātou, I am a Māori writer from New Zealand and I’m keen to connect with other First Nations/indigenous writers. I write about climate change through the prism of colonisation, social justice and equity, with a specific New Zealand vibe (so could appeal to my indig-brothers and sisters grappling with same-same but different issues in their own lands). I use my Substack to publish the work that tends to ‘not belong’ in other places, which is to say, holistic for me, genre-bending for trad publishing! It’s creative non-fict meets journalism meets poetry. There’s a beautiful grassroots writers’ community in Aotearoa and we are slowly building and keen to connect with others. Ngā mihi

Luigi is a Dane living in New Zealand and the son of a prolific artist. His newsletter is a biography of sorts, punctuated by tracks that made impressions on him. He has traveled extensively, met a bevy of artists and musicians, and has nostalgic pictures.
Given the intense history of cricket rivalry between Australia and New Zealand, I may be in trouble if either find out I'm subscribed to the other.
Thanks so much Nikhil. I was actually born in Holland, but it's all good, I really appreciate the shout out. As to Ryan, we Kiwis and Aussies love to compete against each other, but we are also best of mates off the pitch :)
One of the first Substack newsletters I read was Letters from Quarantine, which was hilarious (the author was based in Milan) and it kept me entertained through the early dark days of COVID. https://mammamia.substack.com/. I spend a lot of time in Mexico, so I'm often writing about it in my blog (hence the name), which is currently a finalist in the National Society of Newspaper Columnists column-writing contest (that's a mouthful). Would love to find other blogs about Mexico.
Such a surprise to find this in my mailbox--so far most of the publications I've been seeing seem to be American or Canadian. I can't offer any recommendations so far but really looking forward to discovering authors from outside the North American circle. As for me, I'm a bit of a nomad/third culture kid, currently based in Poland. Writing about flipping the narrative about belief/doubt. Still in the warm-up phase, so very excited.
I'm delighted! There is a story about my first swear....I was 5 and a half. I was engaged to my BFF who was 6 and three quarters. We had plans for a crystal bakery. Our parents were out to eat and he whispered to me under the table, "Get up on your chair and yell out F.U.C.K spells...and I did, so loud...so proud. I knew it was naught but I didn't know what it meant of course. Now I have an acrynom for reclaiming it as sacred. Would like to know what it is?
Feasgar math! I'm Kevin Rutherford from the UK -- recently joined substack and still learning how to find consistency as a writer. I'm gonna tag Clarke Ching from New Zealand, who is just today launching his "Rolling Chapters Downhill" book read-along on Substack.
Hi, all! I'm from São Paulo/Brazil, and I write two publications in Brazilian Portuguese – Paulicéia is abt cultural life in SP and Tá Todo Mundo Tentando (translates as "everybody is trying") is a literary newsletter with chronicles and short essays.
Hola from Barcelona! I’m a journalist especialized in digital media, author of the book “La reinvención de The New York Times”.
In my newsletter Tendenci@s I write about trends and interesting developments in digital media, and also about The New York Times and the world of newsletters. And always with an interview with relevant people from these fields.
I would like to recommend the work of Mar Manrique with her newsletter “Fleet Street”, also about media but from the point of view of a young journalist (https://fleetstreet.substack.com), and also what the Colombian journalist Sinar Alvarado is doing at https://elpedalista.com to explain incredible stories by bicycle.
Hello, my name is Arjan and I am a poet. I am Dutch, live in France, but I write mainly in English. My substack is an inbox poetry magazine, that lands in inboxes every Friday with fresh poetry and links to works elsewhere. I'm planning on inviting other poets to contribute once a month. I also occasionally make podcast episodes. Always curious to learn about newsletters with original poetry.
Hallo! I'm a British marital therapist and writer living in Berlin. My newsletter is The Meaningful Life, and I write about therapy, relationships and finding fulfilment in life: https://themeaningfullife.substack.com/
Ah, great! So close. I really like The Present Psychologist - happy to include as one of my recommendations and would be most grateful if you'd consider doing the same. It seems to be a really effective way to find the right new audience.
Hi, hola, and qué tal? I’m Kiki, originally from the US but I’ve been living in Spain for the past six years. I just joined substack recently and write about food culture and my culinary adventures in Spain.
I love Sinù’s new project where she’s working her way through a classic Venetian cookbook and sharing her adventures (and the recipes!) along the way. Rachel writes about a new ingredient each month, and I really enjoyed her last newsletter which was actually about affordability of ingredients and ingredient snobbery.
Kik you're the sweetest, and I reciprocate wholeheartedly. Your newsletter Come Como Kiki is a breath of fresh air, a highlight in my inbox. Anyone interested in discovering all the delicious food encountered by Kiki in her Spanish adventures should subscribe pronto :) 🔥
Hi Everyone! I'm an American who has lived for 10 years in Moldova and writes about Moldovan politics and economics. Moldova is known as a "small country with a big heart" and has taken in more Ukrainian refugees per capita than any other country. We cover the affects of the ongoing war next door as well as the massive challenges in economics, corruption and security unleashed by the conflict. Check us out!
Just saying hello from the UK. I write a droll comedy and politics newsletter. Andrew Sullivan gave it a shout out a few weeks back, so you might enjoy. One mail a week, free for the forseeable!
I’m Claire in Scotland, though my newsletter is set in California so maybe this is a cheat! I would love recommendations for any other history publications -- I haven’t found many so far!
Among others, I'm reading a great newsletter that I discovered in last month's shoutout thread called Morph and written by Sharon McRae (I am not sure where she is from...)
So far I've found every single one of her articles very interesting, all in the realm of health and transformation, with topics ranging from setting boundaries to personal mission statements. Check it out!
I've started very recently a newsletter called "Vida Vivida", here in Brazil. It's a piece to have a moment where I can write about simple things that happen through life and we don't necessarily realise as we should. The beauty of the sun, the sound of the city, the way people walk to chase what they dream etc.
If you are brazilian, I hope you can check it out. If you are from other countries, why not try to learn another language such as portuguese? :)
Sensacional! Mas você é brasileira? Vi que sua news tá em inglês... Eu já estive em Cracóvia em 2017, visitei Auschwitz. Obrigado por dar uma chance à minha news :)
Hello, I'm an author based partly in New Delhi and partly in Berlin, and I write personal essays about both those cities. Plus a lot of links. :) my substack is pretty old so there's lots to explore in the archives too.
Hi all! I'm writing a weekly newsletter dedicated to fiction/creativity/languages. Follow me for an unapologetically Baltic take on things (I come from Lithuania).
The stuff I've written about includes (in no particular order): Russophone linguistic chauvinism, Wild Abandon (a Turkish Netflix series about a LARPing punk), Riad Sattouf's graphic novels, whataboutist rhetoric, and more.
Hey everyone, I'm Ingrid and I've been writing a newsletter about lifestyle and behavior directly from São Paulo, Brazil. Excited to discover more writers!
To anyone with an interest in the most niche sport of rugby, I write a newsletter looking at the sport with an analytical, story, and human point of view :)
I really like Lauren Crichton and her creation "Pass It On". She is currently based in Sweden and provides great tools and insights for those in the nonprofit world. Her work can be found at: passiton.substack.com
I just relaunched my newsletter Reasons To Keep Going on substack which seems to be the perfect platform. You can read it here: https://reasonstokeepgoing.substack.com
It was started after losing a friend to suicide and is about the small joys & tiny things that help us keep going in spite of *gestures to capitalist hellscape we're inhabiting*. It's also very queer & neurodivergent but I suspect that's just because I'm writing it. I'm hoping to also introduce interviews in the long-term with people driving change and doing good things, too.
I'd love to hear & support anyone else writing mental health-themed newsletters, as well as anyone queer &/or disabled. I'd also love to hear from anyone writing about events & goings on in Britain.
Hi all, I am Alf, a psychologist based in Amsterdam. My native language is Dutch, but I write in English. My Substack newsletter covers mental health and psychology, to spread awareness and help destigmatize mental health issues!
Hi everyone! Late jumping in today. If you write about mental health, self-help, or other encouraging messages, I want to read your stuff! So let me know. I like supporting that field, but I'm also interested in humor/satire, sports, and plenty of other creative outlets. Let me know if you want another subscriber and I'll check out your substack. Happy writing, y'all.
Hello writers of the world! Let us celebrate language, whatever this may be. Here I am living in the beautiful mountains of Colombia, thinking in Spanish, writing in English about the spirit of the place or genious loci.
there are dozens of great Substack newsletters in Brazil, but since English seems to be our common language I'll link Fogo Baixo/Low Heat, a newsletter with investigations on food and everything that surrounds it, written in Portuguese and English https://flaviaschiochet.substack.com/s/in-english-please
I'm Adebayo Oduwole, a writer from Nigeria. I publish 3b's&bs, which is short for Bayo's Bants, Broodings and Brilliant Somethings (yeah, I know). It's pretty much about my experiences while adulting, and I started it in May.
Hello! I'm based in the UK and have been writing about global affairs - health, environment development - on WorldWise for the past 2+ years.
My SHOUTOUT goes to Joel Hernandez who writes Mixed Migration-hebdo - check it out for really *smart* coverage of global migration events and policy developments. Joel always makes this stuff come to life: https://mixedmigration.substack.com/
Hello! My name is Oren Liebenthal and I am a junior in high school living in the United States. My new year's resolution this year was to start listening to one music album every single day of the year, and that quickly sprouted into a new love for writing about music. I post an album review every single day on instagram, and then every week or two, I compile the best of my recent reviews and post them to substack. My instagram handle is an_album_a_day_ol. I do not have many connections on substack though, so I would love to see what other people are writing!
He writes a light-hearted but narrative challenging substack based on evidence that Russia is pursuing the same digital domination goals as the World Economic Forum and the World Health Organization.
Hi! I came here originally to enjoy reading material that was being censored on the MSM, but liked the blog format and decided to set up my own page dedicated to nice things: the Best of Scotland - as a form of therapy.
By all means subscribe (its free) and as I only post every couple of weeks, I promise I won't bore you to death ;-)
Hi I'm Davide from Italy and I would suggest something different from my own topics (technology): Bestiale, a fun italian newsletter about animals. Found on https://bestiale.substack.com/

I'm running a Substack in Russian about writing and design, also sharing my life philosophy — https://lepekhin.substack.com — if you're Russian, too, hop in!
But I recently I've launched another Substack in English where I'm going to write more about life in Russia, about people of Russia, and beside that Im going to talk about how writing helps me in managing teams, time, and myself — https://evgenylepekhin.substack.com
The first edition of it is about to be sent out this weekend. So, subscribe not to miss a thing!
The premise of my Substack is that memory -- of both recent history and the
'longue-durée' -- is essential for common-sense. Western civilization, from my perch in Japan, appears to be rapidly progressing toward demented autocracy. Elementary biological, moral,
and economic realities, that once constituted shared understandings, have been shattered. With this has come a jarring disjunction between lived experience and what we are told by authorities. Collective amnesia, reinforced by daily distractions, has wiped out memory of how we got here. So, I am 'In Search of Common-sense' -- please join.
Kia ora and Fakaalofa Lahi Atu (Maori and Niuean for hello). I am an indigenous woman writer living in Aotearoa, New Zealand and have just recently joined Substack. I write in a range of genres - scripts, short stories, novel (have a published one..yuss), try my hand at poetry and want to learn about the art of spoken word, as well as write psychological assessment reports for youth court (my day job) and blog. I want to mention a Maori woman writer (from my own tribe of Ngati Hine) who encouraged me and other indigenous writers to join Substack and maintain our own tino rangatiratanga about what we publish...check her out: https://nadineannehura.substack.com/

Ngā mihi
Kia ora, Nadine. Another Kiwi writer here. I'm an immigrant here (twice - long story) from a mixed family. My wife is part Maori (as are so many of course) who can trace her ancestry to the canoe Mataatua. My daughter's partner is Samoan, and we have beautiful brown mokos. And great poetry and short stories too! Xxx
Ahhhh!! Kia ora! So nice to have connected via this thread !

Hello :-) to all of you wish you a wonderful day
there are dozens of great Substack newsletters in Brazil, but since English seems to be our common language I'll link Fogo Baixo/Low Heat, a newsletter with investigations on food and everything that surrounds it, written in Portuguese and English https://flaviaschiochet.substack.com/s/in-english-please

Great tip, thanks Anita!
That's a lot of albums to listen to!
Sounds like quite the undertaking! Where do you get your album recommendations from?
From friends, other reviewers on instagram, and pitchfork reviews/ lists
Ciao, I am italian, living in Cagliari and doing a weekly newsletter for italian learners and Italy lovers since August 2020.
I'm loving edwardslavsquat.substack.com - an American writing in Russia
Bestiale is a fun one! Great recommendation, Davide!

Hey there! I'm from Tyumen, Russia.
