We dig into the snack-to-write habits of Substack’s food fellows, from the “proscasti-snack” to hot sauce to cure writer’s block. Warning: these tips are sure to make you salivate
Coffee is mandatory and in times of feverish writing/drawing (I make comics) the 1 or 2 extra mugs are inevitable. To think, annotations and to connect dots, I prefer an almost stoic diet, some coffee, bread, olive oil, cheese, fruits, oat, more cheese, functional stuff. The same during production, eating too much is bad for the brain and the body, especially when I'm drawing, even the posture in this job is an invite to eat less. In fact, if I'm in the middle of a joyful, berserk work rhythm, it's irritating to have to stop to eat. But after 10 or 12 hours of work I must have a heavy, caloric meal or I could eat one of my legs. As with physical exercises, sugar makes everything worst and lazy and meh. Fortunately I'm not a fan of junk and processed food. And drink WATER, guys, always.
Aaron.... why so hard on French? It's just that we traditionally eat only sweet stuff for our first meal. And in "rural" France, people tend to cook their own breakfasts. That is why it's so hard to find something you'd naturally find in the US. Finally, I'll be happy to invite you to my countryside to teach you how to distinguish bakeries that sell insipid pains au chocolat from the ones who make wonderful chocolatines ;)
Into Medicinal Herbs. Traditional Mayan and Garifuna. Looking to incorporate into the, "Food As Medicine " in with other Caribbean flavors. It's just another fad.
This was such a fun read. I’d love some of Natalie’s salami & cheese on toasted sourdough and some of Anne’s pumpkin cake! Choices choices!
I'm up for all of those snacks, even if I'm not writing!
You can also try a bowl of soaked peanuts and almonds. Helps you feel full and also nutritious.
I consume three to four glasses of water when writing, for most of the time. Water tastes like fresh wine these days.
Definitely a jar of mixed nuts, especially Brazil nuts which are the best. Salted.

Love this! My next book with Andrews McMeel is titled The Joy of Snacking :)

Loved your tone though
A good start on the "tips" project. I'm craving more!
Loved this! Always eating in every step of the process.
I love all these snack ideas 😍 and freezing parfaits?! That’s some real future planning right there.
It is very interesting. I will try these snacks. I eat only cheese and drink coffee.
Thanks for the fun and helpful read!
