I’ve installed the app approximately 25 seconds ago and I’m already pretty confident to say that it is great from both a writer and reader standpoint.
Can already see how it can be used for a mindful weekly reading session of all of my subscriptions and if I can leverage to get a few more subs for my own newsletter then that’s a real bonus too.
The companies to trust today are those whose business model isn’t just time on app= ad revenue. Good online platforms, imo, should help you be more intentional and spend *less* time online overall.
Sunday= coffee shop= two hours reading from the substack app will probably be my routine going forward.
it was curious to me that the commercial focused so much on scrolling or an attempt to scroll. It was almost like "tell me the app isn't a slot machine like Twitter and Facebag without telling me the app isn't a slot machine like Twitter and Facebag."
Apple can pull the Substack app like they pulled Parler, or pressure them about content. Once a substantial fraction of Substack customers uses the app, Apple and Google will have leverage. I'll bet Substack authors already violate various app store Terms of Service. Maybe Substack is looking for plausible deniability when they are "forced" to limit speech and Apple/Google made them do it. Websites are much less constrained, as web hosting is a commodity and Substack could even run its own servers.
That they don't have an Android app is very confusing; you as a writer want the largest customer base possible, so you do everything in Apple. 🤦 Substack is coming off as rich and Western while attempting to look appealing to disillusioned leftists?
On the android app, the first thing you have to go through is an ad....... so frustrating! No time for that, especially when it's always the same app for a game nobody wants to play. Then, after the add, it's a very limited version of the web platform. I just better use the desktop platform to manage it all.
This is wonderful to see. Many thanks to all the Substack team. I'm loving all this work you do refining the tools and the machines so we can all do great things for our readers and communities. I especially love that you're bending the rules of physics for writers and readers.
What a great Wednesday surprise! I’ve signed up for so many great newsletters recently, my inbox has become a mess. I was so glad to see the app give me the option to pause email notifications automatically. 😅
This has made me very happy and smiley!! That’s not easy, as I’m quite a grumpy person. It does mean I’ll have another go at my publication that I’ve abandoned
I will be interested to hear what people have to say about this. I have an android so I have to wait, but that's alright, as it will give time to get it all figured out best!
I'm happy with how often Substack is releasing new updates and features. It's a great platform
Wooooooo!!!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Indeed!

Love that I can be more intentional with my reading as well! Having it all in one spot instead of moving in/out of my inbox is a great change.
Exactly that, Kevin.

Thomas, I agree with you about companies to trust today…
My special highlight goes specifically to Substack.
Thank you.
I’m so excited! Already completely obsessed with the app!!!!
Yeah, you can instantly see the potential of it, can’t you?

Google? Does Substack have an Android app?

i was just wondering when substack was going to make this happen!

YES!! Very excited to see this happening.

The Android waitlist is live: https://sublink.substack.com/android-waitlist
It's early, but so far it looks great. I've used it to read an article, comment on another, and then "test drive" archiving one I'd read yesterday.
I might be speaking too soon but it seems like everyone here is too nice for this comment section to descend into Apple vs Android sectarian conflict.
Gives you hope, doesn’t it?
Just trying to soak in any bit of joy we can.
Substack is the new New York Times! Love everything you’re doing Substack!
