Listen up! Summer of Sound applications are open
Podcasters and audio-based publications can apply now for Substack’s summer intensive
Calling all podcasters, audio creators, musicians, and sound-obsessed Substack writers: applications are now open for the Summer of Sound—a month-long workshop to enhance your Substack.
Applications are open until Tuesday, June 21 at 11 a.m. PT, 2 p.m. ET.
A small group of successful writers and podcasters will be guided through Substack’s evolving playbook around audio creation. Participants will work closely with the Substack team, experts from our network, and one another to level up their storytelling methods, production processes, and editorial strategies.
Participants will spend 3 to 5 hours per week in active discussions, mentorship meetings, and workshops throughout late July and August. Participants will be provided with a $1,000 stipend, production-enhancing audio services, essential gear, and tailored guidance.
Our goal with this intensive is to help participants build skills and grow their publications into sustainable projects that help them cultivate meaningful communities and income.
Apply now if…
You have an existing podcast, audio show, or music or sound project on Substack with at least six posts;
Your content is original, clear, and engaging;
You write or record in English (if your publication is bilingual, it also includes English);
You are available in late July and August to join frequent group sessions and contribute actively to online conversations with other participants;
You have built up a substantial audience: at least 500 total subscribers on Substack, or a following elsewhere you feel you can cultivate as readers/listeners;
You’re a community-minded person with an interest in sharing knowledge with fellow writers and creators in the future;
You approach your publication with a growth mindset and willingness to experiment
This intensive is designed for writers, podcasters, and audio creators who are committed to building an independent media business on Substack. If this sounds like you, please apply now!
Here’s what past participants say:
It’s so important to have a circle of fellow writers who get the process, who’ve been through the ups and downs. Without the ideas and support of other writers, our newsletter just wouldn’t be where it is today.
—Animation Obsessive, who took part in Substack’s Grow Fellowship
What a great learning curve this has been! I have thoroughly enjoyed learning and growing alongside a diverse selection of extremely talented writers. It has been a wonderful experience to be acknowledged and supported so passionately.
—Lerato Umah-Shaylor, who took part in Substack’s Food Writers Intensive
