This week, we interviewed Mitch Blum, a music enthusiast who writes Exile on Newbury St., a newsletter where he and three friends compete for the best musical taste.
Yup , I agree . In the late 79s and probably 1980-81 two local rock stations in Rochester ny played great music . Literally before c d s they would do album side weekends .
I remember the black and blue tour , sabbath and blue oyster cult.
Then megadeath opened fir Iron Maiden .
Then corporate radio took over almost every station in America .
At that point I started listening to a tiny local station 90.5 wber
That’s when my musical tastes exploded . Btw , zeppelin is still my favorite all time band .
I was introduced the the smiths , morrisey , pixies , the church ,
The alarm , cure , I could
Go on and on .
On a last note . Fir the shit Covid did to my family ,1 bright star was that I started playing guitar 🎸 again after about 20 years of it collecting dust and I’m not looking back .
Oh shit , I saw suicidal tendencies in a freaking bar when I was 18,or nineteen . I bc think it was 84 , not positive on that .
Because I’m not crazy institutionalize ,
All I wanted was a Pepsi .
I hope this post makes sense , I swear I only has 2 beers after a long work day . Be safe
I understood it all, Foosball!! I saw your all-time favorite band when I was 15 in 1970! Five years later, I became part of the corporate radio machine in two cities...pro FM rockers in both Houston and Baton Rouge.
My upbringing (surrounded by Dad's 20,000 LPs & 78s) as well as those years of radio experience and perspective (as well as a few years in the record biz) inform all I write on my 'Stack. May I be the first to welcome you behind the rope line to Front Row & Backstage? I think you'll find new info about your old favorites, as well as maybe discovering some new tunes! Cheers!
So I click over and I see 'Tom Waits - Rain Dogs'...
Just from that, I already know it's good!

I have 2 words , Peter Murphy .
Best song that helped me through some of my most desperate times in life , (fall with your with your knife )
A close second , echo and the bunny men ( bring on the dancing horses )
And for a real old time song that is a huge break from the former sings , riot ( swords and tequila)
Not quiet riot
