This is great! Much love to the music Substacks out there that introduce us to some great tunes to drive our writing. Very happy to see On Repeat cited. Kevin is awesome. Also, Fog Chaser composes amazing original work.

I personally know Leo, Fog Chaser, and Kevin. When I started my own track-a-day recommendation 'stack in March, I emailed them and asked for advice. They all sent me tips on getting started and growing my audience. All 3 of them have supported me with likes and comments on my posts. I have mad respect for the work they put recommending music to people. In a day of algorithms and insta-curation, a human touch is always welcome. Congrats on being featured, wish you continued success, and I hope to see my own 'stack featured someday!

I certainly have "writing music" in the background, or I use my headphones if I'm in a crowded space and noisy place. Thanks for these playlists!

Anyone else just prefer silence to focus and think? 🧐

I loved Writing Hour and took advantage of it whenever I could. The playlists were also fabulous. I still use Fog Chaser's on my Spotify account whenever I sit down to write or even when I'm getting up and around in the mornings. Such a great way to discover new artists. I hope Writing Hour continues down the road - it's a wonderful part of the Substack experience!

For over a year I've been hosting two weekly silent writing groups on Meetup, one on Tuesdays 7-8p ET and one on Thursdays 7-8p. Fellow Substack writers are very welcome, and the groups are free. The group description describes how each meeting work; basically, we just write. No readings or critiques. All genres are welcome. Click one or both of these links and request to join. Answer the questions and include that you're on Substack. https://www.meetup.com/quiet-time-for-writers-tuesdays/ https://www.meetup.com/quiet-time-for-writers-thursdays/

Interesting. I'm a bit of a hermit. I like to go at it all myself. But somehow, these writing hours seem like a good idea. I should try them. Or even host one. As for the playlist... music helps me to create a bubble, and in that bubble I can write. Or read. Or do some focused stuff. I curate a fresh eclectic playlist every month and share them in my inbox poetry magazine here on Substack. I generally rather collect than curate. When I hear something nice on the radio, or something pops up in my head, or on the soundtrack of a movie or series, I add it to my upcoming playlist. The latest playlist, for April, is here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/29XkVIJTNn7gxjLUOzgsZW?si=dec996934b8a42ec

Enjoy.

Sometimes I like to have music when I’m writing fiction, but mostly I like to write in silence.

As for writing groups, I’m in Stop Writing Alone, https://stopwritingalone.com/ , which is a great online community of writers (and a podcast and YouTube channel). Rumor has it she’s going to be bringing it to Substack soon!

1) https://youtu.be/SWF7kOEEi_Q = 12 hours of UK Jazz and Jazz Musicians. Unlike Spotify, the artists get 100% of the stream revenue. I'm nice like that . :-)
