How do I find my first subscribers?

You don’t need a large pre-existing audience to start growing your Substack. We recommend taking a few simple steps to share it with the people already in your network.

Share your Substack

  • Link to your Substack everywhere
Add your Substack URL to your email signature, personal website, and social media bios. On social media, pin a post about your Substack.

After creating your publication, go to social media—Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, or YouTube—to ask your followers to sign up to hear from you. Substack also provides custom media kits to share with each post you publish.

  • Reach out to your network
Sometimes a personal request is the most powerful. Send your first post to a few close friends or colleagues, or someone in your field who you admire. Ask them to take a look, and perhaps share or subscribe if it interests them. Learn more.

Consistent promotion is key to growth. Over time, each new reader who finds and loves your work will help spread the word.

Want to take your growth to the next level? Enable recommendations, the cross-promotion feature driving more than 40% of all subscriptions across Substack, and check out our guide to growing your audience.
