Thanks for this post, Marc. I'm new to Substack. I had no idea that a chat feature existed. The fact that I can both make posts and have a live chat just changed a lot of things for me. Now I know!
Whomever at Substack or whatever algorithm that sent this post to my email today, thanks! I did need to know all of this. I like online realtime chat communities. Learning about the chat app and the way Marc is using it is so helpful, thank you.
As far as NBA goes, I'm in the Philadelphia PA area, lifelong Sixers supporter. Not the best fan, but I look at headlines, read some stories, and am glad when "we" win. Back when Allen Iverson played, I watched a lot of Sixers on TV, omg, AI was awesome.
I like to watch almost any sport with fans of that sport who can explain it to me. Who is whom, and why. What are the rules, did that guy break the rules, did that ref not see that other player break a rule? As a Philly-area person, I am obligated to insult the ref in various ways. It's our culture, as you surely know.
Although this sentiment is not quite true for me, it may be true for you, so I will close with a necessary quote from Kurtis Blow:
Basketball is my favorite sport
I like the way they dribble up and down the court
Just like I'm the King on the microphone so is Dr. J and Moses Malone
I like Slam dunks take me to the hoop
My favorite play is the alley oop
I like the pick-and-roll, I like the give-and-go
Cause it's Basketball, uh, Mister Kurtis Blow
They're playing Basketball
We love that Basketball
They're playing Basketball
We love that Basketball
Thanks for letting me longpost here to thank you for informing me of the Substack Chat app.
I have other basketball stories; my kids played basketball in a small town. Not in the NBA, though.
This is a great post. I'm new to Substack and this given me great firsthand insight into the benefits of the chat feature. I'm inspired to start utilizing it myself. Thanks Marc!
Thanks for this read Marc ! I’m a MultiSportsman - Primarily sports I played - Thus Basketball, Football, Hockey, Baseball, Track & Field & Volleyball
I’m also a 72 year television veteran - though doubt I ‘saw’ much B & W TV the 1st two years... as a feral child on Toronto Island. My ‘sports motto’ is GO HARD - PLAY FAIR. I’ll be adding a ‘Sports Category’ to my ‘up n comin’ SubStack site this Thanksgiving Weekend - & the idea of a ‘CHAT’ seems a natural to me
When you or viewers need a breath of fresh air & step out front of the bar or into the back alley & ‘sort things out’ - i’m just the kinda bartender referee who can sort things out - yes Marc.. I’m one of the best bartenders I ever saw.. and ‘a teller of tales’ .. including what happens in the dressing room, on the court, in the backfield, on the mound, on the beach break, rink or even In Las Vegas (though I never gamble.. EVER)
Will look in on your SubStack thanks .. send an Invite your way.. I do swear you’ll laugh out loud re my Tale - ‘What Happens In Vegas’
One of my ‘memoir stylings’ as I call them.. 5 minute or less ‘reads’ whether 100 Proof TRUTH or Bald Faced Short Fiction or somewhere mid-court 🦎🏴☠️
It will be amazing if something like this happens for other sports like Volleyball too. Will be so much easy to build a community of my readers at www.playingvolley.com
Well done on this post. As a new user of Substack, I appreciate the opportunity to see the chat tool in action. It has motivated me to begin using it in my own life. My sincere appreciation, Marc! https://geometrygame.io/

I find this thought compelling and insightful, prompting more reflection on the subject. https://202.osttopstfreeware.com
