Because if Substack endorses and promotes your event and then you go all Silence of the Lambs at the “official meetup” in your basement, Substack is liable.

So if a Substack group meet-up is held in an Irish pub and promoted by Substack and a Guinness crazed terrorist with an A.R. 15 shoots all the bottles out and serious injury occurs, maybe even death, with fine shards of brown glass like shrapnel blown from shattered beer bottles, wouldn’t Substack be just as liable?

I would assume if it was a Substack promoted event, whether it was in a private location or a public location, liability would fall on all involved parties.

Perhaps a lawyer could check in here with their opinion. There’s probably precedent.
