This week we are taking a break from Office Hours as usual for our monthly Shoutout Thread.
We host these Shoutout Threads because we know writers want more ways to discover great writing on Substack. And we’re always looking to find fresh writing and celebrate writers that are finding a home on Substack. This thread is a chance for all of us to share what we’ve been reading and inspired by recently on Substack.
How to join the Shoutout Thread 📢
Introduce yourself. What are you writing about on Substack? No need to include your URL - your publication will show up automatically next to your name in the comments.
Shout out a Substack writer you recommend! Tell us the URL of a writer you admire and why. Bonus: Point us to a remarkable piece of their writing we should check out first.
Our team will be in the thread today from 9am–10am PDT / 12pm–1pm EDT in discovery and celebration mode with you all.
What is Stacksearch? Believe me, as a journalist, I have been trying, but none of its web links offer any useful information. I found my Substack on your list via Twitter. I did not approve being added to this list, and I would like you to remove my newsletter removed promptly. And Katie, how about some transparency here? I think many of us were blindsided by Stacksearch collecting our links. By going to Stacksearch, I can read anyone's Substack without subscribing. No thank you.
Hi! I am Nikita, and I've recently re-branded my newsletter to be named Thinking Out Loud - here’s why: the idea of being a thought-leader has been kind of irritating to me, but the idea of being publically curious is more appealing. Thinking is messy, thinking is loud, thinking is imperfect, thinking is a continual work in progress: and so, I choose to think out loud.
I write about culture, strategy, and the ways in which they overlap. I've written about brand purpose, a new cultural operating system for brands, and more.
I often remind folks we are always becoming and mention the art the Japanese use to fix broken pottery with gold. Also, I love Leonard Cohen's Ring Ring the bells that still can ring. That's where the lights....slipping my mind how he works in cracks....ah well.
I love Kintsugi! The thought of repairing broken pottery with gold is incredible! Kind of inspire me that difficult experiences can become great lessons.
Things often become clearer when said out aloud, even if you think the thought is perfectly clear in your head. Never heard of a tough-leader before. Sounds scary.
I've opted for the madman version and think aloud while I go for walks. Luckily, it's Spain and not that unusual, no stigma involved at least.
Hi! I’m Ava Williams, I founded the newsletter A portrait of the artist, where I collaborate with artists across all mediums. They share their work, thoughts, and wisdom from the few years they’ve been making work. I hope to show that young people even if they are not given all the chances they desire, have amazing work! And to show that we are all in it together, if one of us makes it we all make it!
My identical twin sister’s newsletter is one of the mosg beautiful newsletters I’m subscribed to. She talks about modern life as a woman in her 20s and reflects on all the false ideas we have about life. From the importance of friendship in uncertain times, to the joys celebrating the smallest accomplishments her newsletter makes me rejoice in my 20s even when they are hard, awful, or uncertain.
Hey! My name is Rufat, I am a high school student who loves philosophy. I started a newsletter for people who are tired of today’s world. Allow your mind to take a break with That’s Philosophical.
Get thought- provoking ideas twice a week aimed to make you more mindful!
I have an FB group called Sharing Upliftment I began in 2017. We don't talk just share memes and stories to uplift each morning. Must check you out and anyone can join our group. Do come on board and post some non-philosophical philosophy that uplifts!
Many thanks, YouTopian. Come check out Sharing Upliftment on FB. We are pretty soft-edged and I do memes occasionally and I love your content on creativity!
Hi all, I'm Megan and I just launched my newsletter this week! It's called One Good One Bad, and aims to make each week more manageable by naming one good and one bad thing that happened in the last seven days, interspersed with general musings on struggling to be a real person. So far topics covered include: being terrified of accidentally burning down buildings, repressed emotions bursting out during Batman movies, and the fact that I'm the only person in the world who can't pull off wearing a handbag. Upcoming topics to include: the UK - US language barrier and constantly being misunderstood when trying to order a coffee from the same person every morning, why I am for some reason getting targeted Facebook ads for weird erotica, and the humiliation of not being able to use a bike lock. It has been described by various members of my immediate family as 'detachedly ironic' and also 'good'.
My favourite Substack publication is Maybe Baby (https://haleynahman.substack.com/), newsletter about hard-to-describe feelings, in the author's own words. One of her latest posts is linked below, and deals with the many weird and wonderful ways that depression manifests.
Lol! You may be interested in "Guides To Life: Movies That Inspire And Leave You Wiser" It's about life lessons learned from movies (so you don’t have to learn them the hard way). https://moviewise.substack.com/s/guides-to-life
Love your self description here, and loved your most recent publication. subscribed. Commented!
There's something truly important about taking time to reflecting on both the good AND the bad. If we don't tell our brains we KNOW something is wrong, we tend to force things down. But if we don't focus on the good too, it can be easy to become consumed by negative thoughts!
I teach people about the brain chemicals that make us feel good: dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphin. The facts about these chemicals have been forced through an ideological lens, so I am stripping down to the facts. I am using Substack to address the politicizing of social science in a way that I sidestepped in my books and my website.
Sounds really interesting – very far removed from what we write, which is one of the things I love about Substack – but looking forward to checking out your articles
Congrats on your 1-year anniversary! I always thought lockdown was a good time for polishing your skills, though the media has not picked up on my idea. :)
I have worked in epigenetics a long while and absolutely go bat shit when I see the polarization and worse corporatization of research. I have taught many how to read and critique this sh*t. Loved it when a student said, hey look! This one is published by Coca-Cola...and as far as the food chain and processed food don't get me going. Look forward to checking you out. Important work. Many politicians seem to get high on rage as do kids. Upregulated dopamine. One says rage is his favorite emotion. Addiction anyone?
What bothers me is the effort to sanitize the state of nature and make it look like peace and love. The state of nature is quite harsh, and our brains evolved to deal with it, but this is being spun.
I’m Marcella from Marcella Cooking Stuff. I’m a recipe developer, food writer, and culinary instructor.
My newsletter was a pandemic project that has turned into my full-time thing. I have my free weekly newsletter and a subscription recipe club, The Kitchen Club. I write about all things food, my experiences in the kitchen, about my recipe development, research projects into specific food items and topics, etc.
Hello everyone, it's my first time here. After working for years on titles like Marie Claire, Glamour, The London Evening Standard and The Independent, I recently co-founded a writing school to teach better business writing. Along with my two co-founders (an award-winning journalist and adman) we write about, well, the art of writing concisely, clearly and persuasively... This week, it has been all about 'How to be Your Own Best Editor'. which I loved writing...
Wow! Just subscribed. Would you like to write a guest post for my Substack? Anything related to writing would be great! If you don't mind, I can do a guest post in yours. You can reach me through celestetsang@gmail.com :)
Hi I'm a clinical psychologist who was a bona fide couch potato during childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. Now I'm a regular at the gym and routinely walk 3+ miles several times a week. I've just started Lazybones on Substack to offer tips on overcoming the barriers to physical activity.
This is great. I have had a very similar experience in my life to the one you describe. This is something SO many people struggle with and lack constructive tools for tackling. Very excited to follow along!
3. the writing is super relatable! I had this conversation with someone this week on twitter: taking that first step and committing to physical activity can be tough as nails. I actually started climbing, hiking, and mountain biking to trick myself into doing exercise. Now that's what I write about. I'd actually love to do a cross promotion or collaboration sometime if you're up for it!
I started 75 Hard when I anticipated the next few months are gonna be hectic. Daily workout in the morning has become my weapon to be more productive and mentally clear.
I'm Jackie. In my newsletter Story Cauldron, I write about quirky facets of storytelling I discover within everyday life. I'm also publishing a YA fantasy novel series called "The Favor Faeries" on my Substack, with my first book concluding this month and the second one coming in October. One of my most recent newsletters offers a bit of assistance for those who are considering a career change. https://storycauldron.substack.com/p/how-to-change-your-career-at-any
As for shout-outs, first I want to call attention to Situation Normal from Michael Estrin. He offers hilarious slice-of-life tales that always leave me laughing, a precious commodity these days. https://michaelestrin.substack.com/
Second, I'm going to give a shout-out to Sneaky Art from Nishant Jain. His artwork is fantastic and on a post-Substack Grow call, he had some interesting ideas on leveraging Reddit for our newsletters. https://sneakyart.substack.com/
Hi I’m Adam Ming, I write about my journey to becoming a professional illustrator, what’s unique about my experience is I apply the insights I gained as a startup co-cofounder to starting up an illustration career.
Hi, everyone! My name is Caitlin and I write Baci e Cibo : a weekly newsletter on love, food, wine and everything in between.
I don't have a favourite Substack writer yet, but I follow both James Clear & The Finance Ghost newsletters, which are different (one being a mindset coach, and the other a finance guru) but both extremely informative and inspiring. I'd recommend both!
I'm going to check out the Finance Ghost, Caitlin. Thanks for the recommendation. Btw, I have started a sub-publication for my Being Curious newsletter, where I write about food and travel. Looking up yours now. :)
I'm also a subscriber of James Clears' newsletter! It's one of my all-time faves. I love his "Atomic Habit" book 📖👌✨. This week I wrote about it in the newest issue of my newsletter.
P.S. You had me on food 🍴. I've read a couple of amazing recipes you shared, and I'd for sure try to make South African Fruit Chutney and Sichuan prawns with honey ricotta 🤤
Hi, I'm Ava. I'm a comedy writer, playwright, and essayist in Austin, Texas. Yes... THAT Texas -- it's been a heck of a week. I write The Short Story which is a funny, curated, themed newsletter.
Absolutely beautiful writing -- both the short fiction and nonfiction travel stories. If you like Neil Gaiman, it has a similar voice. I read a ton of newsletters and this one is an absolute favorite.
It's well written, insightful, and a valuable resource for anyone interested in leadership and organizational communication. I look forward to it every week.
Hi Ava, love your newsletter - just subscribed - and also LOVE the blanketfort recommendation, so thanks for sharing! I write about psychology, designed as a weekly workout for mental health. Not sure if that's your jam but if it is then please do check it out.
If I may, if you like Blanket Fort (I personally love it!), you'll likely like mine too. I write tales of the speculative, the gothic, and the weird and wonderful so there's a story for every reader!
Hi everyone! I'm Erin Reese. I write about Creative Consciousness, Astrology, and Spiritual Wellness for our times!
After 15 years of writing on Blogger, I *just* made the shift to Substack (so you can see my old body of work over there). I'm thrilled to be a part of this new Substack community and this awesome new platform.
One of the writers-thinkers I appreciate is holistic philosopher Charles Eisenstein, who also recently shifted to Substack. He writes on human civilization, economics, spirituality, and ecology: charleseisenstein.substack.com
I'd encourage you to bring over your best pieces from Blogger (you don't have to send them out as emails) so that people on Substack can benefit from all your hard work!
I'm a two-time Eisner winner and creator of Nexus and Badger. I have written Punisher, Flash, Deadman, and Star Wars. About ten years ago I started writing novels. I wrote Florida Man because it kept coming at me, and coming at me. There are three Florida Man novels and one graphic novel. I've been writing all my life. It's a good thing I know how to write or I'd be homeless.
Hi, I'm Jodi and I write The Book House Blog, which features book reviews in a wide variety of subjects. I also review books that have not yet been published and am trying to create a space where people can get recommendations and see what is coming down the pipeline. Would love any new subscribers interested in books and reading!
Hello. I write Life in the Anthropocene. I write weekly about my day-to-day personal experiences and observations navigating (or not) within our growing climate emergency. I hope that what I see, note, feel, and think about resonates with others. By building community, sharing stories and feelings, as well as offering some ides how to "be the change," I hope to bolster readers' resolve to claim power and make change.
I subscribe to Heated on Substack. An excellent newsletter.
👋🏾 Hi, I’m Michael — a NYC-based journalist and founder of The Supercreator, a publication about politics and culture for online creators who want to shake up the status quo.
I write a daily newsletter that distills the news of the day into smart insights creators can use to live off their work and empower their personal values.
I’m a huge fan of Morning Person, a new newsletter featuring recommendations for and reflections on an well-intentioned life: https://www.morningpersonnewsletter.com
Mostly tech info relating to the transfer of electric power through kinetic and ambient harvesting methodologies. Additionally I scan the US Patent Office’s for issued patents and patent pending applications.
Greetings! I write a curious journal in search of novelty while exploring what we share, how we share and where we are going.
Recently (with no training) I rode my bicycle from London to Edinburgh raising money along the way. I'm also serialising the journey as I type up my journal.
I love to read the words of David Charles as he also tries to make sense of the world with a story every week. https://davidcharles.substack.com
Christian may sound dull but I am deeply trained and experienced in community learning methods and "different ways of knowing." Experience and relationships are my go-to. Must check you out. I too learn by doing. I am also haptic which means I learn by touching the world.
Hello, Dalia recent breast cancer survivor during covid. I am 33 and write about finding hope through chemo, surgery and radiation as I kicked cancer’s ass.
Hola! I'm Marissa and just starting out here on substack. I'm loving it so far. I launched my newsletter yesterday with 10 subscriptions and am so excited to see it grow! I write about the Human Design System focusing on the fundamentals. I want to help explain this complex personal development system to help others improve their lives and ultimately build community around it. My newsletter is called HD Lab Notes. So excited to be here!
10 subscriptions in one day is great! I have found it really hard to contact everyone I know to tell them what I am doing and asking them to subscribe. But getting better! Looking forward to checking out your newsletter...
Hey I write Modern Anxiety. What is Modern Anxiety?
Well I’ll tell you what! You’ve probably got it…Modern Anxiety that is. It’s nearly inescapable these days—that whacked out feeling you get from the incomprehensible shit-storm that we call “culture” in this year of our (meme) lord, 2021.
Most of the time I can’t stand it, and my only recourse is to shrivel up into fetal position, in the hopes that playing dead will make it all go away. But some of the time I gain the courage to fight back, take it head on, tackle it, analyze it, mock it, diminish it, exalt it, fault it, or flaunt it.
Celebrities, history, sports, relationships, politics, food, instagram, your great aunt Martha who makes stellar ginger snaps, language, deja vu, rum and cokes, pornography, and literature—Modern Anxiety aims to investigate how anything and everything might contribute to the strangeness of our anxious age.
Loved the Apocalypse essay, man! Still haven't gotten around to playing The Last Of Us but this might be the kick I needed..."What could be more consequential than everyone and everything you know coming to end?"
Hey everyone! I'm just looking to share my writing and art with the world. I've never really had much luck with blogs in general being an introvert, but it's in the struggle that we grow so I'm back at it again! My focus is on horror and sci-fi and I'm always looking for like minded people!
Yes, blogging for free and giving away. So much of my stuff is used by others. One so-called "friend" used my work on Buddhism and the quantum field got published in Tikkun. When I asked to partner he was too busy. Time to change this!
Hi, I'm Hannah and I'm new here. I recently started the It's Not What You Think newsletter which is a weekly workout for the mind.
I'm a psychotherapist-in-training who's passionate about improving our attitudes towards mental health. I believe it should be as regularly attended to as physical health, without any stigma attached. I started this newsletter as I think we still have a long way to go, and understand that not everyone can afford a therapist!
I would massively appreciate new sign-ups and any feedback from the more experienced community.
For my I shout-out, I would love you to check out one of my faves (which was actually how I first discovered Substack)- Since No One Asked - https://sincenooneasked.substack.com/p/me-vs-the-afternoon - This is a great NL with her signature 'Food for Thought' followed by great recipes. It's simple, wistful and delicious!
Although I choose education and have no license I mentor many and have had very good luck teaching how to self-heal PTSD. Mental health...very good topic in a world I feel is turned upside down by mood-disordered people. I also teach a lot of meditation . We know it changes DNA.
Hey Hannah! Good stuff, I subscribed. I'm new on Substack, too. I was drawn to the piece about finding your voice, because I recently posted an issue that mentions that. Check it out when you have time: https://mandalalove.substack.com/p/about-perseverance.
Hannah, I just read one of your pieces and have subscribed. I personally really appreciate your putting this out there - we all need reminders, tips, coaching and insight to help us navigate life and everything it throws at us. Thanks!
Hi! I’m Phillip and I write a blog called Forward Thinking. It focuses on self-improvement as I go through things in life that teach me lessons the hard way. I am always hopeful that others will read it and learn from my mistakes, so they can avoid the same pitfalls ❤️ https://phillipdougherty.substack.com/
I have to shoutout https://lazyphilosophy.substack.com/ because for being so young, his work is great and I can’t wait to see where he goes as a writer!
Hii This is Leo from Consumer Startups - I dissect the founding journey of the best B2C startups. In the past, I have featured OnlyFans, Snackpass, Public, and 60 other early-stage startups.
Feel free to reach out if you are also into the consumer space :)
Hello Substack Community! My name is Roni. During my nine lives, I've been a chef, author, journalist, tour guide, and teacher. I write about living in a remote fishing village in Ecuador where the jungle meets the beach. It's called "Stories about Life on the Periphery" and I'm just starting out.
I really enjoy reading https://charlotteclymer.substack.com/ because she's amazing and has conquered the world with a brave and courageous attitude. Also, she takes no crap from nobody. My kinda peeps.
Hi Substack People! Lianne, here. I write what I refer to as fictionalized personal history, amorphous prose which has the flavour of pop philosophy, and occasional poetry. Sample subjects include the eroticism of the beaches of South west France, the prince consort and, most recently, the bizarre questions children have a tendency to ask. Basically, whatever is throwing me on or off-kilter that week, and that I think may be of interest to you. My hope is you'll pause, reflect, laugh, commiserate, and ultimately take comfort in the knowledge that there's someone out there who's much more dysfunctional than you are.
Shoutout to Fred Thinks Funny. His pieces take the form of short stand-up style ruminations that are out of left field. I love the abstraction. Check out this piece : https://fredthinksfunny.com/p/juggling . The bit about the giraffe has me laughing stupidly for ages.
Hey y'all! I write Gears of the War Machine, where I compile research about the Military Industrial Complex and the real cost of war. I'm dropping my first piece on drone warfare soon: https://gearsofwar.substack.com/
I'm a fan of BIG by Matt Stoller - https://mattstoller.substack.com/. If you want to learn about how monopolies frame society, this is the place!
I also read BIG and find it insightful. I share your concerns about endless wars, and agree about the hypocrisy of Congress expanding the "defense" budget while clutching their pearls when legislation would spend public funds on the people.
Have you read Stephanie Kelton’s work, or her recently launched Substack newsletter? I find it helps put many of these concerns about “debt” and “deficit spending” in perspective.
I look forward to reading your first full article!
Here's another thumbs up for Non-Boring History. Annette does some strong work. Her newsletter about becoming posh was super interesting and taught me a bunch of new stuff about George Washington.
Greetings! I’m Paul and I write Things I Didn’t Learn in School and publish a podcast of the same name. The writing is about what is going on in macro financial markets and geopolitics and the podcast is about micro life stories. I worked at the biggest hedge fund in the world for many years and wrote the book Raising a Thief about being a parent. The writing/podcast grows out of those experiences.
Hi everyone! I write a science-based parenting advice newsletter, Is My Kid the Asshole? I explain and give evidence-based advice on challenging kid behavior, like "Why does my kid hit me and what should I do about it?" or "Why is my kid so bossy and what do I do about it?" I'm a science journalist -- I write for The New York Times, Slate, and The Atlantic, and my book HOW TO RAISE KIDS WHO AREN'T ASSHOLES came out of a few months ago.
Melinda, that is brilliant. As a mom of two who has survived motherhood through the teen years, I get it (and will say, it gets better). One of the teachers at my kids' progressive middle school once told parents at Back to School Night that her primary goal was to make sure our kids don't turn out to be assholes. Meanwhile, I'm writing about another awesome topic, women in midlife! Forever the optimist, I'm calling it More Beautiful, but maybe it should have been called, Am I the Middle-Aged Asshole? Thanks for sharing!
Also, a shout out to my brilliant writer friend Cam Zarcone whose newsletter Homeschool Culinary Arts is filled with amazing cooking projects to do with kids.
I was driving the other day, listening to an old album from Ani DiFranco and Utah Phillips. He said, "You know, kids are assholes! But they're their own assholes." Makes me smile every time. My youngest asshole turns 14 today. :)
I also want to give a shout-out to Burnt Toast, a wonderful newsletter written by Virginia Sole-Smith that focuses on diet culture and fatphobia (and how to navigate food issues as a parent, too). https://virginiasolesmith.substack.com/
I'm Evy and I write about the lifelong pursuit of strength - physical, personal and professional. You can join me at https://thepleasantbox.substack.com/.
I'm a fan of After Hours (https://blog.felicedellagatta.com) - short daily substack that often makes me stop and think. I would love recommendations on the best software marketing and sales focused writers, as well as, food substacks.
Cool! I'm writing Battlegrounds+ which is a nerd-level deep dive into history's most epic battles. We explore what those battlefields look like today as well!
I really love Uncharted Territories with Thomas Pueyo. "Internet and Blockchain Will Kill Nation States" is an awesome piece of writing
Shaun Gold here, I write YouTopian Journey, which is a motivational and inspirational newsletter that uses custom drawn art to help make you mentally stronger and ready to take on the world! My latest issue on Why Create is a must read for all creators.
Hi, I'm writing the SneakyArt Post, a newsletter about the art of everyday moments in the world around us. I walk around cities, observing life, and making quick sketches with my fountain pen in a little sketchbook. On the newsletter I share my art and observations, and my journey of self education to be an artist.
Besides my own work, I would like to share https://womaning.substack.com, a newsletter about the experience of being a woman in India, started last year by a friend in New Delhi. It's brilliantly written and I learn something important every week.
Hi I’m Suzanne Kiera. I post a weekly article at shotsandthoughts.substack.com. Topics range from A to Z literally. Did you know the letter your name starts with can determine your success or failure in school? Love, grief, nature, dogs’ thoughts about cats, etc. There’s a short info/comment, quote, photo, and poem in each post. All bite-size but packed with goodies. Favorite reader review was “People need this.” Drop by and see if you agree. I respond to comments.
Hey all: I've been looking forward to sending out two shoutouts of newsletters I've really enjoyed for very different reasons. First off, I write "And Now, A Sonnet" which is a personal poetry project to write an American sonnet a week — a way I can respond to cultural and political events through the medium I work best in.
Hi, I'm Connie Cameron, otherwise known as The Resistant Grandmother. The purpose of my newsletter is to call out Trump and Trump-ism, so if you're a Trump fan, you'd best avoid the site. On the other hand, if you're not a Trump enthusiast, you might want to take a look.
Today, I just posted the second installment of "It's a Wonder We Survived: A Look at Trump's Foreign Policy That Haunts Us Still." It shines a light on Trump's arrogance toward allies and adoration of adversaries, and how such a stance negatively affected U.S.--and democracy's interests across the globe.
I’m Adam and I write Allegorical - a page helping people learn solid skills and hobbies that they wouldn’t even know where else to begin learning. From cooking, health & wellbeing, photography, business skills, writing and public speaking, I hope to help people become more well-rounded and happier versions of themselves.
WOAH! The people are here :)
This one's going bananas. I hope Substack HQ's Backup Generator has a backup generator...
[insert animated GIF here of Scotty yelling She Cannae Take It Cap'n]
everybody loves a good shoutout! haha
they do!
Yeahhhhhhhhh

I'm adding Substack stories to my blogrolls. Great resources!
yes! me too!
Thanks for doing this! The perfect way to discover new voices.
Agreed. Exploring like mad now.
Same here!
I'm 79. I tell people how to write.
Short, concise and curiously persuasively! I do something similar, but use way more words! Anyway, I'm intrigued and off to check off your Substack...
May be a sub-group here. I like Google video conferencing.
You're a pro. I just wrote one piddly little book.
Solid gold
I am 71. I call it mentoring. Let's connect sometime.
Hi! I am Nikita, and I've recently re-branded my newsletter to be named Thinking Out Loud - here’s why: the idea of being a thought-leader has been kind of irritating to me, but the idea of being publically curious is more appealing. Lately, I have been enjoying Perfectly Imperfect - such good reccos! https://www.perfectlyimperfect.fyi/
Like that phrase "publicly curious" very much!
I absolutely agree that publicly curious is a great term!
I often remind folks we are always becoming and mention the art the Japanese use to fix broken pottery with gold. Also, I love Leonard Cohen's Ring Ring the bells that still can ring. That's where the lights....slipping my mind how he works in cracks....ah well.
Kintsugi, yes! One of my favorite artists, Tracy Templeton (https://tracytempleton.art/), drew inspiration from kintsugi for her recent prints.
I love Kintsugi! The thought of repairing broken pottery with gold is incredible! Kind of inspire me that difficult experiences can become great lessons.
Exactly! Creating beauty out of the healed-over scars. A lesson for us all.
Dope.
I like your premise - thinking is never finished. Subscribed!
Sounds awesome!

I love your newsletter! Just subscribed and would dive in when I have time later :)
Loved the idea behind your newsletter, but the about page is what sold me. I really resonated with what you're saying. Subscribed!
I’m glad I’m not alone in my thoughts!!
Hey! My name is Rufat, I am a high school student who loves philosophy. I started a newsletter for people who are tired of today’s world. Allow your mind to take a break with That’s Philosophical.
Get thought- provoking ideas twice a week aimed to make you more mindful!
Check out this newsletter by Jake Brokaw, he shares his thoughts on philosophy for lazy people: https://lazyphilosophy.substack.com/
I have an FB group called Sharing Upliftment I began in 2017. We don't talk just share memes and stories to uplift each morning. Must check you out and anyone can join our group. Do come on board and post some non-philosophical philosophy that uplifts!
Check my substack and let me know if any of my art would be a good fit.
Many thanks, YouTopian. Come check out Sharing Upliftment on FB. We are pretty soft-edged and I do memes occasionally and I love your content on creativity!
Awesome!
Shaun brought us one....with a Rumi poem attached. You are prolific. Hats off!
Yoooo Rufat!!
Hey Shaun!
One of her latest posts is linked below, and deals with the many weird and wonderful ways that depression manifests.
https://haleynahman.substack.com/p/67-hello-from-down-here
I cannot express how incredibly fast I hit subscribe after reading your newsletter description. You had me at "struggling to be a real person".
Thank you!! I just tried to subscribe to yours but was informed I am already subscribed. See above re: struggling to be a real person.
Lol! You may be interested in "Guides To Life: Movies That Inspire And Leave You Wiser" It's about life lessons learned from movies (so you don’t have to learn them the hard way). https://moviewise.substack.com/s/guides-to-life
So curious about this handbag insight. Welcome to Substack!
Oops - forgot to say handbag insight is coming up on Sunday. Stay tuned!!
Negative thoughts are my bread and butter! Thanks for subscribing Cole!
Sounds so interesting, this is something I've been wanting to learn more about!
Wow I always wanted to learn more about dopamine, will make sure to check it our!
Thanks! Tell me what you think after you read it. The Substack posts are not an intro to the chemicals, but my homepage is: https://innermammalinstitute.org. And here is my dopamine page: https://innermammalinstitute.org/dopamine
Hey Loretta...looking forward to your podcasts too, Im a behavioural learner myself. What a match!
Happy to hear what you think. :)
Yeah, new words there, we better get used to them too, you'd be doing us all a favour writing about this stuff in a relatable way.
I’m Marcella from Marcella Cooking Stuff. I’m a recipe developer, food writer, and culinary instructor.

Hey! I'm a product person at Bumble at the moment and I write about consumer social through the lens of evolutionary psychology 😁
I want to shout out Julie Young's post on Sea Limited - love reading about how technology operates differently overseas! https://julieyoung.substack.com/p/thoughts-on-sea-limited
Really fascinating!
Interesting. Have issues with the word evolution. ARE we evolving?
omg, this sounds incredible!
Lazybones is such a great word.
Just popped over and checked out your newsletter:
1. love the name
2. love the logo
3. the writing is super relatable!
Awesome, Ed!
Dope!
Ooh thank you so much, Jackie!
Yes I'm seconding all your shout-outs!
Hi I’m Adam Ming, I write about my journey to becoming a professional illustrator, what’s unique about my experience is I apply the insights I gained as a startup co-cofounder to starting up an illustration career.
Wow! That is so interesting!
Cool, happy to have you here! Any good substacks that you're reading recently?
very cool!
Awesome!
I love reading James Clear every week.
Can you link your letter? Sounds something for me :)
Certainly! It’s https://baciecibo.substack.com/.
Thank you for your interest, and welcome to the romance.
I write TWO newsletters on Substack (proudly):
Odd Jobs News: www.oddjobsnews.com/welcome
The First Years of Marriage: www.thefirstyearsofmarriage.com/welcome
I'm loving NOT BORING's newsletter: https://www.notboring.co/
Jen! Awesome! Very impressive GIF game in your posts :)
That is so fun! I love reading Not boring newsletter too.
Hi, I'm Ava. I'm a comedy writer, playwright, and essayist in Austin, Texas. Yes... THAT Texas -- it's been a heck of a week. I write The Short Story which is a funny, curated, themed newsletter.
I'm pretty obsessed with The Blanket Fort written by Mel Hattie: https://blanketfort.substack.com/
Absolutely beautiful writing -- both the short fiction and nonfiction travel stories. If you like Neil Gaiman, it has a similar voice. I read a ton of newsletters and this one is an absolute favorite.
I also really love reading Observations and Annotations by Suzan Bond: https://observationsandannotations.substack.com/
It's well written, insightful, and a valuable resource for anyone interested in leadership and organizational communication. I look forward to it every week.
Yooooooooo Ava
Heeeeey! I've been MIA. Glad to run into you again. Your newsletter is fantastic as always!!
Thank you, you rock!
Your newsletter seems right up my alley - subscribed! Hoping we'll get to see some of your fiction soon 🤞
I recently discovered this Substack which has been such a neat resource - https://blackfilmarchive.substack.com/
That’s marvelous! Thank you for sharing that.
Great tip. Thanks, Jackie! It is a massive body of work. 🌈
After posting this, I saw this post, and it should work for you as well - you could import your Blogger content into a WordPress website and then export it into Substack. Could make your life a lot easier. https://sharonhurleyhall.substack.com/p/moving-from-medium-to-substack
Yes! I saw that option too. I shall consider... And I like the "select pieces" idea a lot!
Fellow fiction writer here (although not nearly as accomplished)! Subscribed and excited to see what you put out!
Thanks, Ajinkya!
Florida Man sounds familiar. Must look deeper. You are a great inspiration.
You had me at Punisher!
Thanks, You!
Hi, I'm Jodi and I write The Book House Blog, which features book reviews in a wide variety of subjects. I also review books that have not yet been published and am trying to create a space where people can get recommendations and see what is coming down the pipeline. Would love any new subscribers interested in books and reading!
Hi Jodi! I do book recs too. Nice to meet you.
Can you link your letter? Sounds something for me :)

Hey Michael! Great to cya.
Hey Michael, nice to meet you...
Sounds something right up my alley :)
You had me at Status Quo, dope!
Thanks for the update and opportunity to connect with this forum.
I am just beginning to display some of my film and digital photographic art on your platform through my Photographic Journal.
As you will see, the process will build to get behind the stories associated with many of my images which have some historical relevance.
There are many more images and stories coming and I look forward to working with you as I develop avenues into the NFT art arena also.
I would appreciate any feedback from you team in venturing into developing some possible marketing adjuncts-
Thanks again 👍
Paul lLeo Faso
Hey Paul! Thanks for sharing.
What are you reading these days?
Mostly tech info relating to the transfer of electric power through kinetic and ambient harvesting methodologies. Additionally I scan the US Patent Office’s for issued patents and patent pending applications.
More on my EVUR PROJECT here- www.evur.us
Thanks
Thanks Nancy... Not dull at all. I appreciate the comment. Sounds fascinating!
Hello, Dalia recent breast cancer survivor during covid. I am 33 and write about finding hope through chemo, surgery and radiation as I kicked cancer’s ass.
Hurray. Congrats on winning that battle. My mother did as well, a long time ago. You rock.
Welcome! That is incredible to hear.
10 subscriptions in one day is great! I have found it really hard to contact everyone I know to tell them what I am doing and asking them to subscribe. But getting better! Looking forward to checking out your newsletter...
Thanks, Kerry!
And I have just written about 'How to be Your Own Best Editor', which might be interesting for you at this stage – https://forthwrite.substack.com/p/how-to-become-your-own-best-editor
Let me know if you enjoy it!
Any great Substacks you've been reading?
That sounds really intriguing, will check it out!
Thank you!
Nice!
Thanks!
Hey everyone! I'm just looking to share my writing and art with the world. I've never really had much luck with blogs in general being an introvert, but it's in the struggle that we grow so I'm back at it again! My focus is on horror and sci-fi and I'm always looking for like minded people!
You had me at art!
I write in the same genres! Subscribed!
Yes, blogging for free and giving away. So much of my stuff is used by others. One so-called "friend" used my work on Buddhism and the quantum field got published in Tikkun. When I asked to partner he was too busy. Time to change this!
We're keeping track of all these great newsletters in a Set!
https://stacksear.ch/sets/@on/shoutout-4
Nice!
I write about mental health too. As I have my ride in mental health, workout is my way to have my best days.
Hey Hannah! Good stuff, I subscribed. I'm new on Substack, too. I was drawn to the piece about finding your voice, because I recently posted an issue that mentions that. Check it out when you have time: https://mandalalove.substack.com/p/about-perseverance.
I look forward to reading more!
Love this, David! I've subscribed. Great content.
Thanks a bunch. It's fun!
Hannah, I just read one of your pieces and have subscribed. I personally really appreciate your putting this out there - we all need reminders, tips, coaching and insight to help us navigate life and everything it throws at us. Thanks!
So cool!
Nice!
I like to write about self-improvement too. I write mainly on mindset, mental wellness and productivity.
Great to see a fellow self-development writer here, will check it out Phillip!
Sincerely appreciate it! Maybe we can collaborate some time!
We should! Lets keep it touch)
My email is pdougher9@gmail.com if you ever want to work together on something! Love working with other writers.
Super dope
I just subscribed to yours! I really like the graphic novel idea. Definitely going to be reading in my down time today ❤️
Thank you! Hope you enjoy!
Yep. Super with you.
Hii This is Leo from Consumer Startups - I dissect the founding journey of the best B2C startups. In the past, I have featured OnlyFans, Snackpass, Public, and 60 other early-stage startups.
Feel free to reach out if you are also into the consumer space :)
Cool! I work at a branding agency called Red Antler so we work with a lot of startups!
love this
Hello Substack Community!
Wow, your photos of Ecuador make me want to be there.
Excited for your first piece!
I just subscribed to Stephanie's newsletter, thank you for the recommendation!
I write about the relationship between humans and nature (starting with the Neolithic Age).
I recommend Annette Laing's Non-Boring History (https://annettelaing.substack.com/)--for anyone who wants to learn about history by way of a good story.
Here's another thumbs up for Non-Boring History. Annette does some strong work. Her newsletter about becoming posh was super interesting and taught me a bunch of new stuff about George Washington.
And thank you, Jackie!
Thank you so much for the shout-out, Lynn! :)
Dope!
Awesome, I am going to checkout your newsletter!
Likewise. I just subscribed to yours.
Also, a shout out to my brilliant writer friend Cam Zarcone whose newsletter Homeschool Culinary Arts is filled with amazing cooking projects to do with kids.
ooh, thanks for the rec!
I forgot the link, it's https://homeschoolculinary.substack.com/people/31880524-camela-zarcone
I was driving the other day, listening to an old album from Ani DiFranco and Utah Phillips. He said, "You know, kids are assholes! But they're their own assholes." Makes me smile every time. My youngest asshole turns 14 today. :)
haha, I love this!!! I will have to go find this song...
Here you go! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-M5Fv3eAf0&list=OLAK5uy_kaTvFpgXtHqF3CsYyaSPJMTUblbYhB6Ro&index=9
thank you!!!
How can I not subscribe??? And probably buy the book too. I have a 12yo and a 10yo (going on 16 obvs)
hehe thanks!!
That is so interesting. Congratulations on the book release!
thank you!
I'm not a parent but this sounds fantastic!
Thanks so much!
You had me at strength!
Love it! I'm stronger at 40 than I was at 30 or 20 and I want others to understand how possible it is to keep growing much longer than we think... 💪
Yeahhhhhhhhhh!
You have a great name! Is it pronounced ee vee?
Rhymes with Chevy :)
eh vie? "Evy Lyons" looks like a great a pen name, but it's your real name?
Anything is possible when we have strength. Love my daily workout.
I share 5 interesting and/or meaningful things every Sunday 💛
I absolutely love ava who writes here : https://ava.substack.com/p/you-have-what-you-want
Hello! I write about politics, activism, and parenting (I have one later today about raising kids in Texas...it's a doozy!)
I love Your Local Epidemiologist for helping navigate the waters of COVID data. https://yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/
Thanks for writing and sharing your journey on Susbtack!
Your Local Epidemiologist has been really helpful this past year
I agree, Your Local Epidemiologist is excellent, I think I recommended it in a previous shoutout threat
Cool! I'm writing Battlegrounds+ which is a nerd-level deep dive into history's most epic battles. We explore what those battlefields look like today as well!
I really love Uncharted Territories with Thomas Pueyo. "Internet and Blockchain Will Kill Nation States" is an awesome piece of writing
https://unchartedterritories.tomaspueyo.com/p/internet-blockchain-kill-nation-states
I got thru undergrad reading all of Herman Wouk. Amazing.
Dope!
Shaun Gold here, I write YouTopian Journey, which is a motivational and inspirational newsletter that uses custom drawn art to help make you mentally stronger and ready to take on the world! My latest issue on Why Create is a must read for all creators.
I just came across The Thinking Bat Substack, which is pretty dope! https://thinkingbat.substack.com/
This is so cool!
Hi everyone! Ana here, write about design and DIY when inspiration strikes, once every few months. Have a look at
https://thejewishtable.substack.com/people/5283120-leah-koenig Food is out of this world!
YUM!
+1 on Nishant's Substack. I found one of his pieces so thought-provoking that I may pick a part of it to centre my next piece around. :)
I would love to read it!
Hi there Nishant! Always good to see your name pop up.
:)
Hello Nishant, just subscribed to both and loving the SneakyArt Instagram feed too....
Thank you Kerry! I'm happy to hear that. :)
Awesome, you had me at art.
I think you'll enjoy it. We talk about some similar ideas.
So interesting!
I will definitely check it out...sounds like it might become a guilty pleasure!~
Good description lol
Very cool
Thanks Michael
Oooh very interesting
Thanks. Hope you take a taste. Perfect accompaniment to coffee or wine.
The first shoutout I want is Alison Acheson's "The Unschool for Writers". It's a very helpful resource for getting ideas brewing for the creative writers of substack. She recently had a renku thread that everyone should contribute to: https://diymfatheunschoolforwriters.substack.com/p/renku-thread-add-your-stanza/comments
The other group is "200 words about culture", which runs these wonderful short pieces (200 words or less) on the gamut of culture. Check out their one about Lonesome Dove here: https://200wordsaboutculture.substack.com/p/195-words-about-lonesome-dove
+1 to 200 words about culture! I find that constraint so neat.
Hi James. I write poetry too. I have touched on creativity in a few of my newsletter.
Hello, dear friends!

Much of this was inspired by the writing of simonsarris.substack.com - a great man.
I hope to hear from you!
