It's totally unfair for Substack to only use a system that isn't even available in some countries.

I definitely don’t think that it should be limited to one system but there are drawbacks and benefits to both.

Using one system means that as a company they are not trying to piece together multiple systems and making sure they don’t conflict. But that also means that there’s a single point of failure for the entire system. Meaning if Stripe goes down for whatever reason, the whole payment system of Substack goes down.

This is not a good idea from a strategic stand point in terms of long terms stability of the system. Though as you say, the fact that it won’t work in some countries yet they offer Substack in those countries seems counter productive.

Although many of those places have a lot of infrastructure problems that would make it difficult to set up properly. Not to mention vulnerable to attack.
