This week, we interviewed Jet Toomer, the writer behind Tiny Violences, a publication exploring daily grievances, microaggressions, and the consequences of belonging.
Substack is founded on the belief that writers and their work deserve respect. This publication is a place for thoughtful discussion around writers’ work. We are disheartened by some of the comments on today's post, and we've turned off the comments.
We ask that writers keep conversations civil in the comments of this publication and other Substack spaces where we gather writers, such as events. That means respecting one other’s perspectives and life experiences in your conversations, and refraining from cruel or derogatory language.
These Community Guidelines ONLY apply to spaces that we manage, like our company publications, events, and programs, and are completely separate and distinct from the Substack Content Guidelines, which outline what is and is not acceptable on the Substack platform as a whole as part of our hands-off approach to moderation that puts writers and readers in charge - https://on.substack.com/p/substacks-view-of-content-moderation.
The racism that is jumping out in these comments is extremely disturbing.
To get angry and hypercritical at a person who writes about the systematic violence they experience instead of being mad at the system that perpetuates is so bizarre.
Hate to break it to you, but you and your (not so veiled) anti blackness are not the authority. Save your comments for the “white lives matter” circles. This is art baby.
Mr Carpenter I think we could all be a little nicer to each other in the comments here. You did engage first. As for blocking or muting... I think you just stop responding and I'm sure Ms Toomer will find more important matters to attend to.
Indeed. BUT suits would renew the old race baiting industry flush with new structures settlement cash and detract money from Jet’s new grievance industry...
NO, being marginalized, abused, oppressed, mistreated, criminalized and denied access to basic services that all humans deserve is violent, if you can't relate just say that.
I find it extremely disturbing that someone who is supposed to be in tune and learned around the ideas of God and love and community is trying to drag a Black woman for talking/writing about the violence we experience daily. If you can't relate just say that and pray for a better world and move on. sheesh.

The grievance industry poster child. How much is the annual income as compared to the race baiting industry one wonders.
Normalize free speech. Words are not violence. Violence is violence. Is it violent to say that 3% of the population commits 50% of the violent crime?
Let's goooo Jet!
💥💥💥💥💥

DIE is the correct and only acronym applicable to the current culture rot. Should ESG be GES, akin to GAS bags?
