This is great. It's exactly what I was hoping to find when I discovered Substack. Now I can point people directly to this summary when they ask me for more details on how my newsletter works. Putting it in context like this also helps me better appreciate how much Substack offers to writers and publishers. None of your 'competition' even comes close. (Do you even have any direct competitors right now? I can't think of any...)
I'm pleased with Substack's customer support. One of my subscribers asked a question about refunds, and I forwarded it to support and got a clear, helpful, and straightforward explanation within a very reasonable time frame. Thank you.
Do you have any plans to introduce Bandcamp to the list of supported formats for embedding? I publish a music newsletter, and I really like sending my readers to a platform where they can directly support the artists I recommend.
When I talk with you guys behind the scenes, I often tell you how much I am enjoying and relieved to have substack. I just wanted to say as much publicly. When we initially chatted right as you were getting started, I knew that when I was ready, this would be the perfect way for me to stay organized and focused on my content.
As it turns out, what I have in mind has been more complicated than I realized, and that has made substack even more important to me: whenever I ask, "Can you add or do this..." you say, "yes, here's how..." or you say, "No, not yet, but we will do that soon...but in the meantime, try this..." and somehow it all comes together.
The best compliment I have had on my newsletter/website so far is, "It looks like you have a staff." No. Just me and substack. Thank you so much, Hamish. One day soon I will have the staff, but I am so much further ahead because of this platform.

Thank you very much for these kind words, Whitney. We are so happy that you are publishing with us and it is great to hear that you are having a good experience with Substack. Thanks again from us all here at Substack.
On the homepage, when the subscribe button is first pressed, will this mean they are subscribed to the free membership? Even if they do not select any option on the payment page including the none option. I feel the none option should be worded to free or something to the effect.
I have published for the first time on Substack and can see my post title in Archive but for the life of me I cannot read my own post - I cannot open it myself....why is this ? What am I doing wrong ?
I've read most of the literature, but, could find out how I get myself and topic out there for people to search and maybe be interested to click on. for example I found one writer I know but only found his Substack subscription site because I searched on his name. ntsbanalyze@gmail.com
this is such an amazing platform for designers and writer or bloggers. i started blog at https://blendinggadgets.com/ . and this publication is too great for youngsters.

Are we able to use custom domain names?
I love this but I'm a little concerned about being locked into a platform.
What happens if I build my subscriptions to $100k+ per year and want to move to another platform?
Can I take my mailing list and subscriptions with me?
Is it possible to move my subscriptions to another provider or would I lose them if I switched to another platform?
You can take your mailing list, subscriptions, and content with you at any time. It's up to us to prove that we're providing enough value to keep you.
Perfect. Great response!

Quick qs - how can we add the Sign up form within the post itself? I have seen many people have those sign up forms in their newsletter issues.
